Hey guys, so a month ago I decided i was going to head up to My olds place on the goldcoast and have a holiday so i could catch up with old friends etc etc had it all planned and was looking forward to it heaps.
a road trip with the new Mrs it was gonna be great fun.
so she didnt finish work till late on a saturday arvo and I decided that i would drive through the night up there and just stop along the way whenever we were sick of the road......
anyways the trip was going great stopped in newcastle and coffs and were really bonding..... then we are cruising along coming into grafton and im looking off in the distance when i hear a mumbled ...whats that?...... then i look off to the side just in time to see a kangaroo have a little hop straight in front of my car about 5 metres away....
I slammed on the anchors but obviously too late and BANG!!! i reckon i would of only wiped 5 or ten k's off by the time I hit it so about 90.... 95k's maybe...... i hear dragging and cracking....... so i was like farrrrrrrk.... walk round the front of the car expectinga crack maybe...... no.... the whole bottom section of my bumber is snapped clean off in two places and the rest of it is folded under the car grinded to shit!!!
so iu had to get her to drive in reverse whilst i hung off the bumber to removve it from under the car and then with great pain... tear the rest of it off the car...... i put it all in the boot quite upset and i come to inspect if anything else was damaged..... OH GREAT... thats coolant pissing out everywhere... fuc k fuc k fuc k...
its currently 3am on a sunday morning....... so i think shit alright... grafton cant be far..... i jump in the car only to be alerted ten seconds later that theres no coolant left..... i burn off into the night... LUCKILY i was only 5 mins out and my temp guage hadnt risen at all yet...... i pull into a servo and stop the car.......
the servo is a crap one and has no aoto supplies and the dero behind the counter has no idea...... i ask is that all the stuff he has to which he replies yes..... so i buy the only thing that might work a radiator putty.... i look under the car only to see that the crack is somewhere i cant even get to so i try my best but it still leaks...... i go back in and spot behind the dude that there is a bottle of stop leak... what a doushe!! so i pour that in and after 20 stress ful minutes the leak slows to a drip....... i think about it...... and run the risk... go buy all their bottled water and limp the extyra 3 hours home stressing my arse off....... sooooo on the monday i get a new radiator which comes to a nice total of 500 hard ones and thats all my holiday spending gone...... i then proceed to holden for a new front bar quote which comes to a nice total of 1834 unpainted!!!! i look on ebay to find that 98 % of vy bars are made for vs and vp commodores and the rest are for fakesport vy's with the litlle driving lights in them... ahhhhhh so im in for some tough times ahead saving for this new front end......... plus the epa notice i got the other week for being too loud so thats just more money....... oh dear.....

sorry its suck a long a detailed post guys but this thing just stuffed my life up this last week and i thought i would share my pain with you all..... heres some pics.....

http://i343.photobucket.com/albums/o478/r8chev/P5030113.jpg

this is the result of what came out the back...... he must of flipped out and went up or something... blood on top of the spoiler too...... ive noticed that the handbrake bracket on the passenger side was covered in remains and then crap went off in different directions... im guessing it split him in half.... and it stank!!!

wow thats a long arse story brett, and you told me in a message with only 160 letters, why couldnt you do that here, haha. ohh well at least the mechanical parts done, and i told you that front bar isnt cheap. i just hope i dont do the same thing in a few weeks.

steve t, yeh he has insurance but excess is a killer not to mention the 3 more years of paying more cause of the claim.

Tough luck with the roo. I have always managed to be in a 4wd when i hit them. I didnt even bother slowing for them.

Yeah bit of a bugger!

Guess it's lucky it only done damage to the radiator and front bar, coulda been much worse. See it here all the time, front of cars smashed in and it's some serious damage.

I guess insurance wise, 2k is cheaper to spend than claim and pay the excess.

Roo's are a pain in the arse.. I feel your pain, but luckily I've never hit one in my car.. Well a live one anyway but thats another story. Up here they are worse than most places. To reduce the risk. Don't drive at dusk or dawn and have good lights to give you as much notice as possible. Alternatively get a second car with a bull bar.. Then you actually try and hit them :shiner::demon::evil:

That is bad luck but you are lucky to have gotten away with such little bodywork damage. I hit a roo doing about 110 on the road between Grafton and Minnie Waters driving a rental Magna. It caved in the bonnet, took off the drivers mirror and dented the A pillar. The bastard still got up and bounced away. To say the rental company was not impressed would be an understatment.

I feel your pain mate. Hit a roo in the VE last december - had to replace: front left guard, inside guard, headlight, front end module, front bumper and fog light. Luckily i was 5 mins from home still kept it off the road for nearly two months - damn christmas holidays!

i just did a 10200k holiday from bris-sa-wa & back and roos was the one thing i was worried about going over the nulabor i kept driving till i got to the point where id see 20 on the side of road & then id pull over. bad luck mate the only damage i got was stonechips :(

after you hit the roo did you grab your front lower spoiler and give it a whack over the head for good measure ?:flipoff:

bloody roo's gotta be careful driving at night the bastards can pop out anywhere....

this is one of the reasons we pay insurance for.

it really does suck hitting roo's for many reason but most of all is not having your pride and joy while it gets repaired

Roos ?? They use them in dog food don't they ? Best place for them I say rather than in the radiator or even worse, windscreen of a man's pride & joy !!! Short of having your mate riding shotgun out of the sunroof there's not much we can do about our national icon is there ? Wait ! I know ... breed more dogs lol.
Shame about the car mate it hurts all of us to see it :bawl:

yeah bloody things are a nuisance. My old man used to do fairly big drives around Australia always being carefull of roos. He went and bought one of those "shoo - Roo" whistle things, and smashed into one two days later!

hey guys thanks for the replies...
yeah as nick said i have insurance but my excess is 2k.... which sucks..... im not gonna pay the 1800 for a new bar no way in hell i dont have that kinda cash ever and if i did id rather be spending it on other go fast bits.... so its a fake kit or a cheapo genuine bar off ebay.......
so its not worth claiming because im guessing itll be around 2 k in the end anyways or hopefully less..... so by the time i do excess and then pay the extra premium its just not worth it......

Yeah thanks luke I might hit you up when i get some cash together and actually start looking for a bar..... Im just not having much luck... first the spew, then this..... whats next......

and yeah I am very lucky that nothing more serious happened.... i guess if he was a little more to the left, the side of the car wouldnt of just let go like the grill did and then it probably wouldnt of done some bonnet damage etc.....

one of the guys at work has a vy ss with a big ugly roo bar and we always laugh at how stupid it looks and how it wrecks the car........ whos laughing now.... damn it!

cheers, Brett

I reckon you were pretty lucky to get away with front bar damage. I've seen kangaroos write off cars, break engine mounts, twist chassis rails etc. Nasty stuff.

probly best off to get a professional to look it over to make sure there is no other damage that you havent noticed. may cost a little but could save a heap in the long run. just a thought

ouch!!!

Bloody roo's .. i recently did a 3k roadtrip in WA up north ... some of which had to be at night (which is a tad crazy but alas its just the way one of the days unfolded that we were driving til 9pm) ... cows, roo's, emus, lizards (big bastards), big angry bulls, and HORSES were just some of the amusments standing roadside.

Whats worse is, after a while, every shrub starts to look like an animal ...

had some pretty bizaare dreams that night I reckon! (no wait, i dont recall seeing that donkey on a roadside/????)

DAMN that hits close to home!!:confused::confused:

R8CHEV,

Glad to hear you are ok, That is what's really important! The car can be fixed and the damage looks easily repairable. Just another speedbump in the road and it will be forgotten once repaired.

Chin-up mate!

Cheers,
Steve

glad your alright, I remember driving up to Qld at night, had a couple of near misses with roos and even an emu which are apparently worse. I couldnt help but think of horror movies when I was reading your story, that it was all going to turn to shit when you get to the dodgy servo in the middle of no where at 3am, Im thinking ok here comes the kidnapping and him finding all the dead bodies from previous travelers, ala vacency or the house of wax

Hey Dude, May be able to help you out with the bar. I have a genuine VY clubby bar already painted red with the grey accents. Comes complete with fog lights and mesh. In top condition. a couple of minor scratches on the underneath of the bar where it is painted grey. The red has not a mark on it. Want about $800 for it. Am based in Northwest Sydney. Sorry to hear and see the results mate.
At least you are both ok.
They are a merciless pest and they love the dark and dusk to make their way in front of you, and like you said, they wait until you are on them to do it.
