Hi All,

I guess this is a strange question to ask, but hey, I will ask anyways....

Tonight while I was sitting in traffic, I noticed that my headlights are just very slightly flickering whilst the car is at idle .... enough to be visible, anyways.

Got the car home and tested this in my dark garage too, and the flickering is there when the car is idling, in any gear (reverse, drive, neutral). I tested with just the parker lights on too, and the flicker is still there (and a little more noticeable).

I have noticed that all my lights temporarily dim when things like the thermos kick in etc, but this little finding is different to that ....

Would be very interested (and appreciative) if anyone who owns an A6 SSV (in particular) could advise if they have noticed someting similar, and if this is a common thing, or just a unique issue to my ride?? I only stumbled across this out of pure boredom stuck in the traffic LOL.

I know this is a pretty small issue, but now I have noticed it, I cant help but be curious about it ... you know how it is :)

I have also seen many posts on the forum regarding VE battery issues etc, so Im wondering if this could be potentially related?

Any feedback you guys could assist with, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks Guys
TEK.

happens in every VE i have been in - including the 2 in my family
they dim when you try to put your window up and it is already up

I have been test driving new VEs to (my family ones are both 06s, and a few mates have 07s and 08s) and they do it too

Im not worried about it
Cheers
Mark

Hey Mark,

Thanks for the reply buddy ... are you saying you have seen the headlights flicker whilst idling too? NOt just when the thermos kick in, or you put the window up, but more so when you are just idling?

I can understand (to some extent) the dips in power when added load is on the electrical system, but still cant explain the flickering ....

Cheers,
Scott.

I don't have a VE so can't compare, but flickering lights even parking lights at idle sounds odd, I wouldn't have any concern about them dimming when fans or power windows are operated.

Thats my thinking too mate .... I accept the dipping but not the flickering ...
Anyways, thought it was worth a curious post :)
Thanks for the feedback - I appreciate it.

happens in every one l have seen including mine, has to do with the BCM controlling the alternator output which constantly varies the voltage between about 12 and 15 volts, the reason you dont see the flickering in the battery guage in your car is because the sampling rate of the guage is not fast enough to pick it up.

Welcome to the crap VE electrical system where the KISS principal has been long forgotten.
