I have been doing a fair amount of research about improving the suspension in my lowered Calais and came across Wholesale Suspensions Penrith (sponsor).

I rang Steve and Luke and visited thir workshop. What an amazing and professional place! When I visited, they both spent a considerable amount of time talking to me, explaining the engineering of springs and dampers and also looking at the car. They also showed me the workshop (many bays and hoists) and the stock etc. The open waiting room is fantastic - actually within the workshop area.

Now for my questions/request for advice.

They have 2 "drive in drive out" deals for forum members at the moment.

The first set up is King Springs with re valved and calibrated (I think) lowered Monroes for $950.

The second deal is the same King Springs but with Koni Sports shocks (also re calibrated) for a total of $1700. See the the thread at this link:
www.ls1.com.au/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=111

Can anyone tell me of their experiences. comments with either or both these set-ups?

Also, any comments re the ride? Don't want it too firm for the Calais which is my daily drive and does very high Kms.

Cheers

Mate,
I had them fit lowered kings springs only to my SS -V and kept the standard shocks and it rides really well. Little stiffer than before but still comfortable and not bone shattering every time you hit a bump. From memory the springs lowered the car 40 mil at the front and 60 mil at the rear from standard FE 2 height. cost me $500.

cheers,:)

Forgive me dude, I am half asleep and did not read your post properly. I didnt realise you had already lowered the car and were looking to update shocks etc. sorry. My BAD

A lot of us on here have the Monroe GT short shocks with Kings SSL/SSSL springs in our VEs and are very happy with them. I was told a while ago by the suspension place I used to buy my stuff from (before I met Black Diamond) that the Konis in lowered VEs occasionally destroyed themselves on big bumps and was advised against them. That was about a year ago so maybe they now have something different.

Mate i have had suspension springs from the guys at wholesale before and was very happy with their service. If youre on a budget go the monroe option but if you can afford it talk to them about height/dampening adjustable coil overs, worth every cent the difference.

I was in the same predicament you are in last week and decided to go for the King Springs and Monroe Shocks. I picked the lot up for $620 and thought that was a good price. When comparing the 2 options i couldn't see an extra $1000 for Koni shocks being worth it as i mainly wanted it for looks and bit better handling. I even considered Coilovers for a while but $2500 would be overkill for i wanted. If you don't race the car or do a heap of track work do you really think the extra money will be noticed driving to the shops or to work???

Na that was just supplied, i'm guessing another $200-$300 tops for fitting.
$110 for one set of springs
$169 for one set of shocks
$110 for one set of springs
$232 for one set of shocks
Not sure which price was front and back and those prices are GST included.
