the only damage is scratched paint on the bumper and guard, plus the guard, just above the bumper is dented slightly.
I will get a more accurate quote tomorrow, but does anyone have a vague idea of what it will cost to fix?
I need to decide whether or not to claim on insurance as my excess is $400.

give it a buff and see how it comes up, I did this once and felt like a real goose but hey you get that.
depends really, I dunno if you would get away with spraying just the front wing and bumper and getting a good colour match. hard to tell from the pics. Just do a run around get some quotes, throw the old cash no invoice line in there too see what that gets you.

As a general rule allow about $300 a panel for paint alone, plus dent repairs. Should cost around the $7-800 i would imagine, but once you mention going through insurance the price can go up a bit. The other thing is your insurance premium can go up next time around unless you have no claim bonus protection. That can soon take it past the initial $400 excess in actual cost to you.

At an educated guess I think it would be around $1000-$1500 for a good job.

To compare, I had a patch like that between the front and rear passenger side doors. Slight dent too. Including replacement mouldings, the total bill was $700 and a perfect job.

i had the exact same dent and scratch as big V, cost me $850, thats including repairs and aligning front bar, and its a great job, so i guess you cant be much more if any to us, go to the smaller type panel/painters as they normally go for cash and do it cheaper, also while your there check out some of there work to see how good they are and always get a few quotes, id never go thru insurance with something small like that cause the next 3 years will be on record for claims, cheers my 2 cents

I have been out of the trade for a few years but in the shop where I worked that repair would have cost you about 2 to 300 hundred dollars. This price can go up depending on any damage behind the panels. From the looks of it I dont think that will be likely though.
The bad part is that it looks to be impulse blue which is classed as a group three colour which is the most expensive due to the pearls in it. The good part is that you have managed to keep the damage down low and away from the door and bonnet. This will keep the cost down. With metallic colours they dont match very well when you do an edge to edge spray. What painters usually do is blow the colour out. This involves, for example, if painting a gaurd I would spray colour into the front door and then clear the gaurd and the door. This is how the costs start to rise. In your case this would not be necessary due to the location of the damage.
I know this wont make you feel any better but damage like yours was the one thing I used to look forward to as it is a quick easy fix. Especially the bumpers. They are brilliant and easy as piss to fix. It'll be looking like new in no time dude.:)
