good stuff Shane (ud_lose) and eddy.

I dont even bother going to car shows anymore even as a viewer, i lost interest in them since h vs f in 2005.

Much prefer to speak to owners directly at drag & speed events.

Mad pics Daz. Scotties car looks mint. I got an idea for the Assasin mobile. Thought of painting the aircon pipe work black? It looks really good and will make it dissappear in the engine bay. Douglas has done it on his R8 and it works a treat.

That 68 Camaro is HOT! Would be a happy man if I had that in the shed. Would be the ultimate Sunday car.

The underbonnet colour on the wagon looks great too. It's a really well presented car and has heaps of go to match the looks.

Well what a way to cap off a huge couple of weeks, Both myself and Eddy have been waiting on parts from the U/S since early this year and with parts arriving only a week or so before the show it was a massive effort to get the cars even running.

Firstly Eddys GTO after just getting the car back with a roll cage the engine was built the weekend before the show and slotted in the car midweek with the first startup being on the Thursday night the car had only completed 2 dyno pulls before arriving at the show, the first being 550hp then the second 670hp. During the show the tuning continued with several 700+ hp runs and eventually went on to redefine what most people thought possible………… 766RWHP N/A.
The engine consists of a 455ci rotating assembly filled with a Callies magnum crank, Oliver rods and Diamond pistons where it gets exiting is it's running the very first set of ETP Canted valve heads in Australia topped with Jessel rockers and a beautiful custom sheet metal manifold with 2x 2000cfm throttle body's.

Secondly my GTS, a similar story with the engine only first fired up midnight Thursday and backed straight onto the rollers on it’s first pull it went just under 1000hp and blew a tyre (lucky no damage) then the second pull was Friday morning still on BP ultimate with 18psi it astonished me with 1190 rwhp followed up with a few tweaks to the tune and a little more boost with a short pull of 1268rwhp and still going straight up we decided to take the car as it was and play with it at the show.
The Friday night it was the first car on the rollers we were just going to take it easy but unfortunately it bent all the steel tie down hooks and broke every strap ending up with 1220rwhp when the car left the rollers (power still going straight up) coming down heavy and slightly damaging the front bar and left side skirt......If anyone has footage of this i would love to see it :)

Saturday even more straps were used the car produced 1244hp then a little more boost was added resulting in 1301rwhp although it run out of spark at the top of the run costing us some serious power but a great result none the less.

Sunday we aimed high but unfortunately the car broke 3 straps and decided to exit the rollers again at 1090hp with what straps we had left we had one more go resulting in 1250 odd hp but due to wheel spin lost 50-60 km/hr of wheel speed over previous runs.
Then I finally got to drive it for the first time with only WOT tuning done so far I was unsure how it would go but to my amazement it was a pussy cat to drive with the stop start traffic near the dome the triple plate TEX was an absolute pleasure to drive the new upgraded cooling system resulted in 80-82c in traffic and 85-86c on cruise at 100km/hr in the end the whole combo together in perfect harmony with not one spanner going near the car since the first startup I think is testament to the quality of work from Active Automotive

Anyway here are some video’s of the action that I have found so far and shortly I will ad my own pics & vids

As for Mark Sheehan his CV8 now has a 455ci lsx also sporting ET heads and a hydraulic cam as he drives it everyday, from memory it's just shy of 600rwhp although it's nothing on his 6000hp monster

Thanks to all that went to the Perth PSR

Melbourne is next in early 2010

We will be raising the bar significantly to try and ensure an International Standard Expo . . . a cross between SEMA and the PRI in Florida - although it will never be that large.

The support via email and phone over the past 2 days from the Perth Exhibitiors and Potential Melbourne Exhibitors has been somewhat amazing

We started on the marketing structure and floorplan layout for Melbourne yesterday

Hopefully all facets of the Performance Motor Industry will support the Melbourne PSR Show.

Trade Exhibits and Tuners will be invited from accross Australia and I promise to try and get Ed & Shane over from Perth, with their Cars - Expect to see the "Greatest Dyno Shootout on Earth"

As per usual, we get blamed for wrong Dyno readings and fudging figures or inconsistant tiedown Bla Bla Bla.

It is not easy to put on a good show and there is always the NEG to deal with.

I have had a raft of congrats & complaints re the Dyno Readings at the show and some are just unfounded.

We all know that figures can vary with the tydown and the gearing and the tyre pressures etc etc but in the end if the owner prepares the car correctly, Dave & Mark's Tydowns are consistent and Simon Drives the Car as per Shootout that is that.

At no time does any of our team have an agenda or political favoratism - Full Stop.

OK we all have favorite cars and I can remember seeing Mark N arguing with Mark Else re the tydown of the Black Hawk GTO - they both had the GTO's performance as their formost goal and 1000hp + was just that. We wanted consistency wherever we could and nobody was about to beat that car for S/C over 400ci Champ.

Interestingly enough , ET's Cam Only Maloo ran 470 at Active and 461 at the Show - Same Dyno - Dave and Mark would have strapped it tighter than Ed - stiff shit to Ed - we arent about to loosen the straps for a better number cos we do them all the same.

Those that watched closely would have seen most cars get a tighten up between runs as a check and precaution as we werent keen on cars leaving the rollers as Shanes did - Twice

In the end Mark and Dave were Consistent with there prep.

However , after all the Inuendo over the past 4 days I recieved a call from Tim Slako tonight with some very clear poitners. For those that do not know Tim, he is on the wrong side of 60 and has been tuning for longer than most people on this forum have lived. He has raced as the proud representative of WA in Group C touring Cars in the 70's and 80's and for years campaigned at Bathurst with cars prepared in his West Racing workshop in Osborne Pk. He is also a principal of Redline Oil Australia and the owner of a Dyno Dynamics Dyno!

He went out of his way to call and relay some facts. Tim Put a Customer HSV Coupe Signature on the Dyno Sunday morning that is equiped with a C5R.

1. It ran 502 RWHP at the Show
2 Tim was dissapointed at the number and when he looked at the Graph it layed Down - NOT over
3. He came to Simon and I and said that it may be a valve spring issue!!!
4. He ran the Car again at his Shop on Monday and got a 498RWHP
5. They checked the Car today and found 2 broken valve springs.

That should clear a few things - Dyno Consistancy (498/502), Vehicle prep by Owner/Tuner, Our Teams consistancy, He never blamed us and checked his own facts first.

Youre never too old to learn - I was beginning to doubt things myself - Shame on me - Thanks Tim and all the other supporters.

dyno readings aren't always consistent when your making big power there are many factors that can alter the run. But by having straps that are not firmly they brake. I take my hat off to the driver , stopping shanes car in an instance . I would not imagine what could of happened .As for favortism, i think you should of put the two cars at different times so more emfasis on eddies business and marks business or who evers business could be displayed appropiately . A presenter should speak more about the cars and what they are about. The size of the show was ok , but to make it even bigger next time , more planning should be considered in keeping every body happy. May be it was that look on your face when shane made 1300 hp that gave it away , thats my 2 cents worth. Congrats to shane .

This is what frustrates me a little.....Everyone was on the same dyno run by the same crew with the same procedures on the same weekend.

I think the guys that were flown in for the event did a great job, in the situation that my car ended up in it was recovered almost instantly and relatively unscathed

spot on. Thats why i dont understand at dyno comps why the shit fights all the time?

Im not having a whinge here but stating the facts that are.
I was never going to be close to getting the 1st place N/A car there over 400ci. Eddys car was over 200rwhp more than mine and i dont doubt for a minute that it is genuine power.

One of the problems with car shows is every tom dick and harry have about 3 litres of tyre black per wheel on there cars. And when you run a car with a narrow wheel base such as a silvia then run a commodore you will find your trying to drive on metal rollers covered with lubricant.

I smelt the tyre smoke and it was also spotted by one of the dyno guys.
My car was logged for the dyno runs and showed over 30kmph of wheel spin.
My car makes good power but nothing over the top and to have trouble to stop 500+hp from spinning the wheels i dont know how they stop the big hp cars.

I walked away with the 2nd place trophy wich is as good as i was ever going to get so im happy.
This is what always happens at dyno comps and i dont think it will ever change.

I would like to see more work done to ensure all cars are treated evenly at the comps wich will probably stop alot of the whinging.
I know at summernats they tie down the cars with an airbag system instead of rachet straps. This would make all cars under the same restraint force as each other as long as they are anchored at the same points. Maybe a list for each type of car and were they should be anchored as well.

I have personaly never strapped a car down so i can only comment on what i have seen. Wether this system would work for Big hp cars as well as the regular cars well i cant say.

And how about having the tyre pressures done before the cars hit the dyno. On the shootout rules all cars are supposed to run about 40 odd psi (cant remember exactly) yet i havent been to a comp where the pressure have been done. And at the shows can the rollers be wiped down with some brake clean to ensure no tyre black is on them.

I have no problem with the guys that ran the dyno comp and they were verry supprised when i told them i was going to have no part in strapping down my own car and trusted them to do it.

There needs to be some clear guidelines set but who makes the rules and who decides whats fair.

hawkls7 - I take all comments on board and you have made a couple of good ones.

I have spoken to a strap supplier here in Adelaide and there are straps and there are straps - I now know more about strap quality and strap ratings than ever. We will supply our own straps in future made here the way Mark and Dave want them and all cars will be on the same system.

Up to now the emphasis on who goes on the Dyno and when (on the sunday afternoon) has been focussed around the Crowd. From 2.30 on I planned to run Ed's Active Yellow GTO, Simon's FG F6, Marks GTO and Shanes. That was Aspirated , 6cyl Turbo, S/C and Turbo in that order for the crowd spectacle building the numbers.

Announcer knowledge is always a grey area for me and in hindsight I should have stepped in B4 Blackhawk was run to explain a few more things in detail to the crowd as Pinky was light on Data, but strapping had taken my focus away at that point. I think Mark E and I will talk about the promotion of his Worksop in more detail later as I think we both could have done a little better - the Owner, however was great in his interview.

The Blackhawk bonnet up or down was another issue to deal with. I wanted it up enough to give it a good chance and the Dyno team wanted it down - in the end there was a compromise. I wouldnt be surprised to see a custom bonnet on that car in the future.

I have always said that Mark Else does some of the best (if not the best) S/C installs in OZ - if not the World. 1000hp S/C is just amazing and his workmanship is not to be questioned - Awesome is the best word.

The smile on my face when Shane made 1300 was probably more about the possibility of a 1400 on sunday arvo.

Unfortunately I did not have the smile I wanted. A month B4 the Show there was a real possibility of 5 cars making over 1000hp - Shane, MWS Black GTO, White MWS VE GTS, Eds VZ ute and Tim Slako's VS GTS.

Now that would have been something special and would have been another "Stamp of Authority" by the WA Tuners that they are possibly "Best in the World" - Roll on Melbourne 2010 - The Victorians will be out to prove me wrong!

My Bias - Yep I think I am Biased , is to WA , I love the place - I am a Horsepower Junky that cannot get enough - WA Feeds my Addiction.
I am sure the Victorian Tuners are going to give me a "touch Up' for this post - Bring it on!

Now, lets get back to the look on my face (smile) for a second - Shane owns that title as he drove his car home on sunday night - I cannot imagine anyone on the forum not wanting to be Shane Stephen on sunday night.

By the way, Ed let my son Dan go for a spin in the Active Maloo & Andy Brown took Dan for the drive back to O'Conner on sunday night in his Lambo - I think Dan got the next best smile!

Perth - What a great Place

Assasin - First things first - You have one sweet GTS - it just gets better and better.

Dyno Comps are as much about preparing the Car rather than the tune.

Just like the strip, the chassis/tyres set up must be a priority.

I have seen plenty of interesting tweaks over the years to increase horsepower on a Dyno.

I have never, and probably will never, put them to print but there is a lot of interesting tweaks to be done just as there is at the Strip.

In the end it is about putting the power down.

. . think chassis, think springs, think tyres, think pressures, think preparation just as we all should at the Strip and Dyno.

I watched my son Leigh clean the rollers on sunday morning but cannot recollect them being done at any other time during the day.!

Just as I have seen big power cars run average times down the track, I have seen the same on the Dyno. Everybody blames the Track or the Tuner or the Dyno or whatever - Prep is everything and it starts with "Out thinking" everyone else!

You have my number, call me if you want - Cheers and thanks for bringing you Jet to the Show and putting on a great display - My sons took about 10 shots of your car!

It is a shame we cannot use the shots anywhere in our publicity as I have been told they are owned by WA Performance - Strange arrangement that!!

Your shots are your shots and you can display them just like every single other person on this forum.
I have spoken to Deb and there is no reason you cant use your shots and there never was. This is what i find strange

I dont blame the tune or my car or the dyno it ran what it ran. I just stated the fact it had over 30kmph of wheel spin wich is in black and white with no interpritation what so ever.

And if i still have the car when the next show comes around it will be there and it will run.

A CCCWA member requested official pics of cars from the two sponsers of the CCCWA website Active Automotive & WA Performance for use in there forums this is a small part of the responce he received as we dont want to name names or scar reputations.....

As for WA Performance photos, the exclusive ownership of these photos belongs to WA Performance. No photos of WA Performance cars, stand or display can be used by anyone for any purpose without written authority from them

This is sad that you have been caught up in there ongoing politics as your car was one of the most impressive cars in the show and deserves publicity but at least now your aware of the situation

once again well done on your ride its a credit to yourself

Scotty

As you have said Mitch logged your dyno runs and we did see the difference of the 30 kmph from the dyno sheet, but really when all is said and done with all the bullshit aside your car, built your way, run your way and hats off for even bothering to put it on the dyno.

For those that are wondering about the debarcle over the photos it is nothing more than getting first rights to the photos of the cars that were on our stand to use for our own adverts, banners and brochures, nothing sinister or underhanded as others seem to want ppl to believe. The part that is a bit of a mystery is that we have our own section here and on other forums and we would have put our photos and a spewl up like we normally do but like everyone else we dont have any pics yet!!

Apologises to all the forum users that this has even become an issue.

Cheers
Deb
