Hi all, new member, i will save the greetings for elswhere :).

Quick one: Chroming alloy wheels, possible?

Have a black Sv6 ute on order for work (self employed drafty), went for 20" supersports to be included prior to delivery.
Joined LS1 just after placing the order.
Fell in love with black on black look as per many of the sweet memeber rides on this forum.
I found a couple of Threads on painting, definately an option.
Can they be dipped for a shadow chrome finish?
Would the price of doing so be unreasonable?

Thanks ppl. Cheers :jester:

Shadow chrome is a painted finish so cant see why you cant get them done.

Would look different and is something I know I havent seen before which would be a nice change.

As far as I can tell Curtis' rims have held up exceptionally well since then too! I was looking at them from about 5m away last Saturday at Chev's and from there they still looked as new!

As long as you got the money, anything can be done.

You would probably be better off going to 20's though.

The thing is am thinking of buying light weight wheels, at about 18 pounds. or 8.1 kgs. So i was thinking of doing the same to it too.

I'm sure it can as I'm pretty sure the stock 18s and 20s have the same finish. Agree with VESS60 though, seems a bit of a waste on VE SS 18s, though if on your VY may be OK.

I'm sure it's in Curtis' My Ride thread somewhere about the same time as the pics above appeared there but am pretty sure it was about $170 per rim, mainly because the shadow chrome paint is so expensive.

The first thing most people do with these 18 inch SS/SV6 wheels is get them the hell off their car.

Like the Wonkmeister said, they look good on older model cars.

Yeah Wonky (Wonkmeister ) is on the money here, around $170-200 per rim.. as stated the Chrome paint is right up there in $$.. also a fair bit of work involved when going the chrome shadow process..

They have held up well, with just a few little stone chips etc

Cheers

Thanks guys much appreciated. :goodjob:

I notice Curtis got Race Paint to do his rims, would it be worth shipping them over, or should any reputable 'local' paint shop be competent?

I suppose fitting tyres becomes a specialised art form once the rims are done...
