the misses has been complaining for a while now:bawl:
so this morning i went out to see what the problem was!

rundown of car: maffless tune with GTS maff pipe and my VY 2 hole modded airbox. all else stock. Battery is 8 weeks old!

now to the problem, on our COLD mornings of late, car won't start!:vpo: turn key and it just spins over, like cars of the good old days with no computers. so tempted to give it 2 stomps on the go peddle. so i tried leaving the key to on for a few seconds and then turn to start, and guess what it just kept turning over:confused: i then went to go inside to get my key for the car but the house was locked so went back to car and turned key and "VROOM" it started:bow:
has only done this for the last week, and starts first go at any other time during the day:confused:

any ideas?

possibly key head/slip ring contact...

look when it doesnt want to start and see if security light is still flashing...

other wise possibly fuel pressure... may require a few primes of the pump to get enough fuel up for it to start. (reason being check valve in pump failed)

Mine did this, and was temporarily resolved by giving the fuel tank a solid kick whenever it refused to start.

ok this morning was freezing, and car would turn over and not start, 10 minutes or so of trying to start or leaving ignition in the on position! NO START
we give up and misses takes my car,
i noticed with ignition on you could hear my fuel pump for like a milly sec, but not once have i heard her fuel pump?
now for the fun part, car sat all day in same spot and with the temperature outside only just getting above the 10 degree mark, we try to start the car at 4:00 pm, ****ing first kick:flipoff:

any ideas
i'll change the fuel pump but car runs fine and never faulters except first start of cold mornings
i'm confused?

If you can't hear the fuel pump, its probably the fuel pump. It is possible to bridge the terminals under the relay for the pump, which will force it to run. If you still can't hear it in this situation, its the fuel pump for sure.

thanx SirNemesis, but why does it only do it when freezing cold? and then not miss a beat once it starts?
i'll try bridging the terminals next time after next, as next time i'll take maff pipe off throttle body and throw some fuel down it's guts and see what happens......

sounds to me like an immobiliser problem, like its not dis arming properly, if it was the fuel pump, why would it start every time after the first initial start??

you can buy the ring (thats around the key hole) from holden that goes on the steering column for about 16$, eliminates one option, them id be going key pad, battery could be almost ****#d and not doing its job.

edit: next time it doesnt start, take No1 lead of and stick a screw driver in the end,put it next to something metal, get ya misses to turn it over and see if you got any spark, if you do, next take off the main fuel line to the injector rail and see if it pumping fuel...

But I still reckon its faulty immobiliser or along those lines.

1BEAST2NV thanx, for the info, i'll check out the ring, as i've tried my key for the SS (which has new batterie) and same problem. it does have an aftermarket alarm fitted, so maybe this might have something to do with it aswell.

now for the next cold morning to try this stuff, tomorrow will be the day

Yeah but the key from your 'SS' wont be programed for any other car other than the SS, thats why when you buy a new key they have to be programmed to suit the car its going in,

Each car has there own program (key security)

Would be like me using my key with my misses key pad to start my car --It wont work as they keypad is programmed for her car.... If ya get what im sayin.

A new key from holden is between 100-150 bucks re-programmed.

well well, outside temp is around 7 atm! so i thought i wonder, went outside to start the SS and it kicked and stopped, then just kept turning over. pulled maff pipe off and threw some fuel dowm it's guts and it started straight away!
fuel pump tomorrow for me! i hope this fixes the problem:bow:

Garry

ps checked alarm light and it's working properly and even played with the key ring.

pss sorry 1BEAST2NV i mean my key to the missesus SS, not my SV8 key:goodjob:

Ah ok :D

Well before you go buying a new fuel pump, make sure all the plugs, wires and connectors are clean of dirt and stuff like that,, could be a bad connection somewhere

What make and model is the misses car ??

try bridging the relay like sirnemises said, could just be the relay playing up!!

thats the solution for a relay issue, could have told you that 2 months ago but musta missed this one

no start, listen for fuel pump ignition on, no noise swap relay, works problem solved, doesn't work fuel pump is next.

Easy and cheap fix there :) I'd be stocking up on those relays at a grand total of $6.00 each ;)

My VZ R8 cranked but no start. Cut a long story short, ended up changing the dark grey starter RELAY in the fuse box under the bonnet. I only noticed it because two of the faces on it had 'burnt' marks. I had to crank it a few times with the accelerator to the floor ( to burn all the petrol in the cylinder from the constant cranking)
