Hi Guys,
When I was at Chevs Dyno Day, I spoke to the Pedders guy there about the coil-overs on display. At the time, I noticed that they were fitted with vulcanised rubber strut top bushes and not the urethane ones that I'd expected to see. the did look different to the stock Holden ones and I think they even had some Pedders branding on them. Can you give some information on these bushes, explaining...

What are they and are they better / stronger than the stock units?
Why would I use these over the urethane ones that most people use these days?
Given Pedders sell both these rubber bushes and the urethane ones, what applications should each be used for?
What are the costs for supply of the rubber bushes?

regards,

Simon.

Hi Simon,

I contacted the Pedders Frankston store to see what they had on display and the top mount you are asking about is our 5851 unit which suits VR-on models are is $49.00 RRP each. View PDF (http://www.pedders.com.au/PS_images/tradeNews/pdf/tn1175474114.pdf)

Pedders redesigned and produced our own mount after many of our customers experienced failure rates(e.g.: Material breakage or loss of height through sagging) that were significant.

A number of our customers had replaced their units with urethane ones and had experienced excessive NVH issues, steering stiffness and we have had reports of the odd one jamming in the shock tower.

The new Pedders unit is stronger rubber, has redesigned internal metal components which properly support the car and also maintains NVH to a level similar to the O.E. products. Pedders do not list the urethane equivalent in our product range. Though there may be times when we have sourced and fitted them to a car at the customer’s request.

I am not sure what else the Frankston guys had on display at Chev's but a quick call to them would cover any other questions you may have about what was shown on the day. Victorian Stores Link (http://www.pedders.com.au/storeFinder/1)

i've been running these for a year or so, not bad no probs.

was told they have more reinforcement inside basically lot stronger to prevent collapse like oem ones. the oem faults were fixed on these.

i figured would be less harsh than urethane ones and if they don't collapse would be better to have for that reason.

Fitted some to my VE last week and can say they just seem a fraction firmer than stockys, seems great so far

That is correct as the rubber is a harder duro than the O.E. units it will feel a little firmer and than the original units.
