generally directional tyres are noisier, but also perform better

Don't get Dunlop SP9000's. They are the noisiest tyre I've ever had....

I have heard that the Good Year LS 2000 II are quite good.

The the quitest tyres i have used have been Pirelli's. but yeah they cost a fair bit, but perform well and dont make a lot of noise.

Mine are only 17" but I have just recently taken of the original Bridgestones and replaced them with 'Toyo's' and the difference is unbelievable, the car has become so quiet and the ride quality is fantastic.
I can't believe how quiet the car has become. Not sure if Toyo make a tyre in the 19" I would assume so, they are made in Japan so not Chinese or Korean rubbish. They are actually OEM on some Japanese cars. Price wise they were a lot cheaper than Bridgestones.

$$$$ BANG FOR BUCK.. For me i reckon Falkens are the go the new 595EVO's or even their previous release brand at the moment can't remember had them on my Coupe no noise probs and when they got some heat in them they performed better than a lot of the big dollar rubber out there!! :soap:

Yep must say the same here Drewie.. Toyo silica type.. I actually had some one in the car that said "I thought the bommerdores were noisy on the road" I guess it came down to the tread pattern and brand as if it wasn't for the wind you'd think your standing still ;)

Had Yoko C-drive's on my old car, very quiet but don't do anything silly on them as they will kill you.

HaHa anything has to be better than the NEXEN piece of crap spec that I got on my 2o,s. They are so bad I gotta crank the tunes to drown out the warped rotor noise they make. Cheapo crap is just that!

These are bad....
http://www.acetyresfalkirk.co.uk/picts/durun_tyre_default.jpg

Anything like this pattern will be noisy.... these are noisy on almost all different surfaces. They whine on the smooth stuff (even very low speeds) and roar on the coarse stuff.

On the previous car I had Maxxis MA-Z1 which were ok on most surfaces but shocking on coarse finish/country roads. They were ok on the smooth stuff except while turning the noise would start up.

I've never really had any major issues with any previous tyres I've had so either I'm getting fussy or the two tyres above are crap when it comes to noise.

Any of the Yokohama AVS DB range is nice and quiet. You can see the models on www.yokohama.com.au

Ooops... I meant Maxxis MA-V1, not MA-Z1.

The other one is Durun F-One (Cheapies).

They only go up to 18". Most of the manufacturers have a 'quiet' tyre or range of them but most don't go bigger than 18".

Mate, all bullshit aside the best tyre for the street is without doubt the Hankook K107. Its the only tyre on the market that is 100% silica and not only are they the best performing street tyre but are dead quiet.

Ask anyone who has driven on them and they will swear by them.

cheers

I reckon Maxxis are very noisy. Nexen N3000 (my current tyre) quite acceptable, but a bit of noise.

I know Nexcen are cheap and nasty but I've got to say, I got 40,000kmms out of them on my VY and I didn't notice them being overly noisy. I thought they were a pretty good alternative for those on a budget. Particulary if you're driving an older model with IRS that scrubs out the rear tyres in 10,000kms.

MY VZ came with Nankangs which are the worst tyre I have ever had. I actually thought the bearings were rooted in my wheels they made that much noise. I've since upgraded to Falkens which are great.

Kumho KU-31's are a good, grippy tyre albeit a bloody noisy one!
On some surfaces I could swear that I have 4 stuffed wheel bearings!

Agree completely FLANGE, I think my wagon compounds the problem. For the price at the time though.........Cant wait to wear them out:rofl: 15k and counting!

Yes the K104's did have mixed feedback but the k107 is a totally different tyre. Like all brands including bridgestone, some models are average and others are grouse. Goes with everything.
Once again, the K107 is the tyre i am reccomending not any other model.
cheers

For instance, the tyre size requested in the OP.

Michelin Pilot Preceda are very quiet and was very happy with them on my VXII SS. Not that pricey either.

I ran Kumho KU 31's on my last wagon and didn't find them that noisey but they handled well wet or dry.
Currently have Yoko advan sports and they are a bit noisey and from what I hear quite pricey, might look at Falken 452's next time.
Used to run 451's before the Kumho's.
