Been covered before but probably quicker just to reply.
LS1, LS2, LS6, LS7, LS3, L76, L98 are all engine designations used by both Holden and HSV.
LS1, L76 and L98 are Holden only variants.
LS2, LS3 and LS7 all HSV variants.
LS1 and LS6 are 5.7l engines.
LS2, L76 and L98 are all 6 litre engines.
LS3 is a 6.2 while LS7 is the grand daddy dry sumpped 7 Litre.
M6 is Manual 6 speed gearbox.
A4 = Auto 4 speed
A6 = Auto 6 speed.
Many, many others which you can search for.

So what is the difference between a L98 and an LS2
What he said - what exactly is the difference?
And, why are there two L98 engines (current one in the VE and the L98 in Camaro's of years ago)...
And, what other cars from the GM stable use the current L98 (if any)?
Cheers, TB

L98 isnt a designation that came from the states, hence why it is the same as the L98 of old.. Its a Holden only thing.
The L98 actually features the L92 heads that are used in the 6.2l Chev Escalade engine in the states. To the best of my knowledge, the current L98 wasnt an engine used by any GM variant in the US of A.

Correct about the L98. It is a name that holden have named the engine code number of the aussie chev. In the states they have never heard of an L98. They call the equivalent an L92.
Late model AFR VE's have an L76 with the Auto. The manuals are still an L98.
Holden had a heap of L76's and didnt have anything to put them in so they put them in front of the auto's in the new VE's.
There is not alot of differnece to the L76 which of course is a 6 litre.
L98's also built by the mexicans not the americans.
Hope this sheds some light.
Andy.
