Just wondering if anyone has had any of these issues im taking my ute back to Holden next week to get these things checked under warranty but im not over impressed so far, ute is VE sv6 just done 17000 ks issues are,

- Nock in front drivers side strut under braking or turning left.
- Winding noise in gearbox in 6th gear.
- Capping that runs across rear window rattling on the highway. (think its loose)
- rattle in dash (near drivers side aircon vent)

Not to sure how many people here service there own car but i did mine at the 15 thousand mark and pulled the oil filter down to find quite a substantial amount of metal/alloy remains would take pic to show if wanted.

Just interested any one else had problems like there or other issues?

I have an Omega Ute with the same motor gearbox combo
and can relate to your 6th gear whine, although mine is very
quiet and dosn't bother me. Infact I had forgotten about it
till now. I also have a noise from behind the rear window,
however I think mine is the tonneau cover flapping at speed.
Dont know if you have a soft tonneau might be worth checking.
mine has done 16,000 km and has no dash rattle, I do have one
that comes and goes in the drivers door. I had some major
electrical dramas at 3,000 km fixed by the dealer, since then
the car has been a ripper.
Hopefully your dealer can rectify your new car issues, I have
been fortunate with mine being happy to help.:)

Oooh... photos please :goodjob:
I'm assuming you've got an L98.
Is 15k the first time the oil gets changed?

Despite Holden's claims to the contrary you'll find most people here would not use the running in oil for the first 15,000km! Most will change it at 3,000km, if not before.

I'v got an SV6 ute with 23000 on the clock.
I have the rattle in the drivers side air vent. But hey, its a holden... it will rattle.
I havent experienced any noise at all from the gearbox in 6th.
Rear window is fine, however iv got the hardlid so i dont know if that makes any difference.

The only thing that does anoy me is the skeaky clutch pedal...
but im just going to wait for 30k service to get it looked at.

that sounds serious regardless of first oil change interval at 15k

naked eye can see down to approx 40 micron, oil film thickness in some engine areas can be as small as 1 micron.. if you can see metal then that's like pushing a football through your ear!

I would have someone like main lube do a partical exam under the microscope and produce a report for you. you should not 'see' metal in your filter..

I would be very very concerned as to the condition of your big end bearings as any contaminents in the oil system can spell disaster!:bawl:

That little rattle comes from that insert thats on your door to the airvent, mine had it and apparently its not uncommon on the VE's. take it back to holden and they'll should give you a new one if its still under warranty.

I will try and take some photos of the filter tonight, Im thinking about just waiting till the 30k service before i do anything about it all.. but yes in a new car i would not assume a gearbox would have any sort of wind in 6th gear.

The rattles and suspension nock seem to come and go.. which is strange the suspension knock has gone away for 2 days now ive been underneath and had a look cannot see anything loose and i shook the sh*t out of the front drivers wheel to get the noise and no had no luck.

Yes i have a soft rear cover but pretty sure there isnt any noise coming from that. It is good to hear other storys and opinions as when you are buying a new car you shouldn’t really have these issues.

Before the 30k service im going to send a oil sample to caterpillar to have an examination done so when holden do the old "its nothing dont worry about it" ill have a exact oil report to hand to them leaving them with no leg to stand on.

Mate,

I have a ss ute and i had a soft cover on mine from new. and i had the same noise your talking about coming from the back window. The soft cover has an alloy bar that clicks into you tub and then a strip with a magnet in it, (some other makes have valcrow) on the freeway at 100kms it flapped around making a noise. it took me a while to work it out but i pulled my tarp of and drove it and the noise was no longer. I now have a hard lid on and there is no noise. To stop the soft cover slapping i cleaned it under the magnet and put a strip of soft tape down(double sided tape) so it stuck the magnet down, and i found the magnet was still strong enough to penitrate through the tape so it wasn't hitting on metal and that worked untill i got my hard top.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
James

Hi Guys, I haven't posted for a while, but I thought i should add my thoughts.
My VE experience has been pretty positive quality wise. I have had an SSV Ute for almost a year and although it took a while to decide if i loved it as much as my VYII SS, I have come to love the VE despite the atari style gauges. I have tried to think of any warranty issues to bring up at the next service, but after 13000kms the only fault is the 'switchblade' style key is falling apart a bit. I think my ute is a gem, and streets ahead of VY in quality control. By the way, a bloke at work got a new SSV last week and it came with michelin tyres. Are michelin the new OEM suppliers? They seem super soft and sticky so I think they might have a pretty short lifespan. Any thoughts?
Cheers Justin.

I had a vu ss ute and I found a bit of metal on the plug magnet when I serviced it at 500kms. Most likely there from when engine was built, thats why you have a magnet on the plug as metal bits will sink to bottom of sump. I never had any issue with my ls1 after finding that.

Yep, as of Jan 09 Michellin are new suppliers for SSV 19s at least and possibly all Holden tyres. My ute built Mar 09 came with Michellins.

Bloody tail light globe went on driverside really dissapointing not happy at all!!!

Only joking:rofl: love my ute and being my second ve no major probs at all

ps changing globe in ute taillight requires small hands tight fit Grrrr.

Re the oil change i think most here do a change at 3000>5000km mark

Cheers Paul

FYI, apparently rattles and squeaks are only covered under warranty 'til 3000kms, or so I was told by local dealer, but generally they're happy to fix or adjust if they can at no charge - yet.

When auto elec put my LED reversing lights in he just took the whole tail light assembly out. Didn't take long.
