Perhaps hosting the server in Aus instead of the USA would help. I would think the forum makes a fair bit of money to afford it.

When you hit reload, and each page that is refreshed is over 500kbs in size (due to 4 animated sponsors banners - plus all the other images and code), you can see how the poor little server would struggle.
There's currently 282 people online, and every time someone clicks a link, whether it be searching for new threads, clicking through to the next page of a thread, or even going into the private messages, a huge data send has to be done by the server.
Thats a lot of not only data being transfered, but fetching and reading of hard disks by the server/s that LS1.com.au is running off.
Obviously the sponsors have signed contracts, with agreed exposure rates. But in my humble opinion, there is just too much data that needs to be sent through.
Could it be dropped to two banner ads per page, for a 2 week trial?
I have no idea how the guys on dial up put up with it.

If you are ever looking to stalk a server, go to this site:

Down the bottom is a box "Find the location of your host". Put your domain in there.

Mods should delete more crap threads and make it as tight as it used to be without all the other shit that gets posted.
delete the chatbox, tarpit and anything that starts with funds approved or has the words bookclub:) anywhere in their user profile and ban post whores that just have to see their name in every thread and contribute farkall except backslaps and ass kissing. I remember the days when post whores got their posts constantly removed which quickly taught them not to post rubbish.
After one day, view hit new posts and you get 5 intersting car threads and 5 pages of wackers wacking off!!
Just my five cents. I shall now await some of the wackers offering me some change!!:):):)

just posting because we have a few long timers in the same thread.
:-p
Though i do agree, don't need the chatbox at all. I'd like to see a maximum amount of posts per day enforced on members. (this would stop some of the shit, pointless posts)
It would be interesting to see how many posts vs length of time on the forum there is for the members.

I'm not sure it's the qty of posts thats the problem its the amount of people and guests signed on at any one time. To limit the amount of posts one can do, would not make it much of a democracy would it.
If getting rid of the chatbox solved the problem then I would be ok with that temporarily until the forum bandwidth is upgraded.

So what do we do about it... its the sponsore who should be pissed.. they pay for it don't they??
You pull your head in and wait for the problem to be determined and resolved ... a dictionary and some grammar lessons would not go astray on some people as well....
somebody upgrade the number of ports the server has!!
What ports might that be Einstein ?? Too many armchair experts around ...
Perhaps hosting the server in Aus instead of the USA would help. I would think the forum makes a fair bit of money to afford it.
The forum does not bring in enough in anywhere near in sponsorship to host it in Aus .. it wuld cost approx $10-15k AUD per month to host it in Aus .. presently serving 1.5-2Gb of traffic per DAY! around .5 TB/month..

It is not related to speed or data size, baners are kept under 50kb to help with load times and the server has a gigabit connection to a core backbone in the USA. The delays are related to SQL query load etc. we had 450 users on line at once just recently and it is the concurrent load that is bogging things down..
There is no contract as this is not a business and there are no SLA's etc. this is a community service run by volunteers ...
Mods should delete more crap threads and make it as tight as it used to be without all the other shit that gets posted.

Well done Darren, you are the only one so far who has come the closest to hitting the nail on the head ... big threads with alot of users viewing it at the same time is one of the biggest killers of the forum ... Best example of this was the VE Launch and the VE Thread nailin the server till it crashed .. (was an older server however..)
