Just wondering what peoples thoughts are about running dump pipes from extractors only for drags, B/Outs & Event days.

I normally run dump pipes from the diif for events & would like to do it straight from the headers good idea or not ?

If not WHY?

Car is S/Charged 600+ rwhp

Thanks for your help

Are you meaning after the cats as if not it will stuff your tune up wouldnt it?
Oxy sensors will go off tap if not after at least the cats and i would imagine you would loose power.
Just a thought:yup:

I run after cars for circuit racing with a set of out the side pipes. Twin 2.5s.
It is hard to get used too as it really is a in your face noise and somewhat distracting when you are racing around.
Burnouts would be cool with side pipes. Never tried it

His tune might be open loop only (mine is), so there shouldn't be a issue.

Just do it

In light of my new exhaust coming for the drag day I've cut mine before the diff, left the cats on to take the rasp out of it. Sounds a bit whoa but its really for a laugh.

Took it for a spin down the street, if anything the only difference I reckon is its lost a tiny bit down low BUT you dont idle racing so no problem.

I put 3" dumps on the Monaro for a bit - some of the boys here heard them at the first Busselton Motorfest.

I took the cats off and turned them over 180 degrees and bolted them back on - this way they point outwards. We then made short dumps up that exited near the rear wheels.

Lost a LOT down low but once you feed it to it you dont notice any loss.

Got to be careful though as on the drivers side you will be close to the fuel line so you may cause the fuel to vapourize from exhaust heat and run your motor lean.

I reckon it's a good idea. I ran with my full difilippo exhaust when drag racing. Only lately while pulling my car apart did I feel how heavy the sucker was. The weight alone is a valid reason. My bloody exhaust with cats would have been 40-50kgs I reckon. Started mine up a couple of weeks ago with no exhaust and it sounded like the gates of hell had just openned up. Can't wait to get it running again with a massive mother of a cam and no exhaust. :headbang: They sound mean as hell without one.

Thanks for all your replies.

I will be still running the cats as the collectors are 3.5'' & the dump pipes i had made are only 3''.

I was more concerned if it would do any damage to my engine? Can any one tell me that it would be appreciated Thanks.

I'd ask whover built your 600rwhp setup. I'd suggest there would be no harm done to your engine just by shortening the exaust.

 Hell Yeah. I drove mine from the engine builders to the exhaust shop the other day. Only had the Headers on nothing else. Sounded like a friggin top fuel dragster.
