Good to see an LS1 in one of those :goodjob:

The old 350 Chevs were a common transplant .

Nice work there :goodjob: i nearly bought a small block jag years ago but when i opened the bonnet and revved it up the motor leant over on a ridiculous angle lol guy had fabbed up a shocking pair of mounts, if only i had a camera phone back then...

Did it have a small block in it before? If so did you use any of the old conversion parts?

Good Day thanks for the interest and comments and to answer a few questions

no kit used but engine mounts and trans crossmember were purchased from the US from a mob called www.jaguarspecialties.com, radiator and fans are std VZ and the a/c will be hooked up when the budget allows for this

Nice one :goodjob:

Have fun with the aircon. Replace the hoses all the way back to the firewall. They are notorious for cracking, especially the ones that ran to the fuel coolers on top of the engine. Be careful undoing them too....you can twist the thread right off and that means aircon unit out from behind the dash to replace the core.

It would handle even better with an LS1 in it than with a SBC. What springs did you use in the front?

thats a really nice conversion there mate. Looks very professional. I had a look at that Jag Specialties site - they stock some great stuff for this type of conversion.

I will be starting on a very similiar job shortly - won a 1982 XJ6 Series III Sovereign in Sydney today on ebay. Complete, minus motor and box - it used to have a 350 Chev / TH400 conversion, and has some bits left over from that conversion, although I won't be able to use most of them......the rest of the car is complete, nothing else missing, it looks reasonably clean and straight in the photos, but a closer inspection next week will reveal all....-

Picking it up next week, I can't wait to get cracking on this project. Would you mind if I pm'd you for some tips on this job ?

cheers

thanks for that :goodjob:. Really appreciate being able to ask you about this conversion.......I received an email today from Andrew at JS - talk about friendly and informative !! He gave me a comprehensive list of all the parts in the conversion kit, and seems like a great person to be dealing with for a job like this one.....

Here are a couple of pics of the Series III Sovereign from ebay - I am heading up to Sydney next weekend to pick her up. :) Spoke to the owner last night, he has a background in building rods and street machines, sounded like a very genuine enthusiast.....he reckons I have landed a very good example of one of these models......fingers crossed its the case.....

I will do all the suspension and steering upgrades, plus the normal stuff like wheel bearings all round, brakes, etc, prior to dropping a motor in.

What did you do for a sump and headers?

What sort of dollars did it cost all up?

Whats does a Jag weigh out of curiousity?

You should see a huge increase in fuel economy and a huge reduction in oil musage

wWould be interesting to compare otherwise

I have had some very high speed rides in V12 Jags so smooth

Whats does a Jag weigh out of curiousity?

My short wheelbase series 1 XJ12 with a 383 chev, 5 speed manual, one tank full and the other tank half full, and a huge stereo comprised of MDF enclosures, 5 amps, and 16 speakers including two 15 inch subs was 1710 kg over a weighbridge.

I'm thinking that without the stereo it would have been about 1600kg wet. Even less if it was an LS1 instead of the stroked 350.
