I heard today that Simmons Wheels has closed or is closing down shortly. Anyone heard anything about this? Doesn't seem to say anything about it on their website.

Though I thought they had an office in VIC, but now seems repairs can only be done in Sydney. Am I dreaming or has this always been the case?

seems to be the case a very sad day..

If they had worked out a way to charge a reasonable price for there wheels i think they would be going well even in these tuff times.

It has been on the cards for awile. I rang some time ago to get a quote in 18s in the FR series and they said they wont be doing 18s for long and these will be available in 19s only and they will be very limited. They did not say anthing about shutting down but I remember a post not long ago saying they were shutting doors.

Scroll down and you will see the post

I still remember the day when I saw the first VL with 17" Simmons, and everyone was like OMG have a go at that......

Now I will have to find a new set of wheels for the Tozza rebuild :-(

Yep news has been in the pipeline for about 2 months now. Had to have one of my wheels repaired, wasnt given the option of replacing it with a new rim as there no longer in production (or very limited). Its a 18inch rim.

All work is being sent to a place in sydney now, who has a contract i guess to repair simmons wheels. repairs will continue to happen but new wheels will not be available.

The rear rim on that thing above is a one off 20" version.

As much as I love the simmons wheels they havn't really moved with the times. You can't release a series of wheels and not change the style for decades IMHO. Sad day but there are two many hot looking wheels around half the price maybe not as well built but most buyers arn't fussed. I can't see why the owner would retire and simply shut his doors unless the company has no value left. Hopefully the owner has a nice nest egg and enjoys his hard earned retirement.

I hope so too.
Unfortunately with most family businesses that close, its usually cause they have run into the ground and reality has finally overcome emotion.

Its interesting, as I would have thought the goodwill of "Simmons" wold be worth quite a bit.

I agree. As much as I love RX3s they ALWAYS have the same bloody rims... but no major model refresh from them over the last decade means I only yawn more when i see them.

All we need is the Jap manufacturers to start drilling stud holes a little wider for us and we could have some seriously porn wheels on our hands :)

I have Volk GT-C 20x10.5 on my last car... loved em (not cleaning them) :)

Yes indeed it is a sad day! I for one loved the good old simmons wheels and thought they were competitively priced for what you got. There are cheaper throw away wheels on the market, but the ability to order one off and replace damaged rim inner or outers and change offsets was a great option especially for the racecars.:bawl:
