Hi all,

So due to constantly modifying the ss its no longer (and hasn't been for quite a while) my daily driver. So once it's paid off I will be needing something to take it's place (until then i'll keep on using my bike).

I'm doing some research into the next vehicle I would like to purchase. I'm deciding between a Z series senator and a Z series r8 clubby however it must be 6 speed manual (sick of death of driving autos) and i'd really prefer the senator. I'm not looking at purchasing until late next year as I still have some money to pay off my ss.

Now I know that manual senators are about as rare as hens teeth so thats why I figured i'd start my search/research early and hopefully be able to find out how many are out there in the market and maybe find someone that is looking to sell theirs and trade up to another vehicle toward the middle/end of next year.

The boxes it must tick are

Manual
Sunroof
Satellite navigation
Xenon headlights

and bonus points for

Rear-seat DVD players
Tyre pressure monitoring system
Colour must be Blue for the senator or Black/Turismo for the r8

I'd be looking for something thats stock as a rock with low kms. I will be putting a procharger/ase turbo kit and valve springs on it and maybe an exhaust apart from that it will be kept stock. I want to go the sleeper approach this time around.

The link is exactly what I want same colour too.

Anyone know how many of these senators were made in manual and/or who may be looking at selling one of these late next year.

No VZ Senators were available in M6 mate. They stopped at VYII but have now begun again in VE. But its not available in VE Senator Signature so they don't really count.

yes no manual Z series Senator also you will find a struggle to get all those options on one vehicle.Id just buy a VZ R8 Manual and then either change wheels and the front bar /boot spoiler to look like a Senator

Really :( The link I posted showed it was available in manual also :(

So looks like it will have to be an r8 then :( I've always wanted a Senator as my next car but i've had enough of driving autos (my car and the missus car are both auto).

Ok so then I guess the plans need to change. I really wanted to upgrade to a 6l but now I guess I may throw the VY GTS (04 build only) into the mix also.

I was also looking at the possibility of stepping into an E series Clubsport depending on the price next year as I didn't want to spend any more than 30k (purchase price) on the next toy.

The problem with Clubbys though is they are starting to become very common which is why I wanted to go with the Senator as I think it has more "class/rarity" to it although i'm not a fan of the front bar on the new Senator.

On another note ... in my first post I did mean to say "sick to death of driving autos" not "sick of death of driving autos"

cheers - Matthew

Haha, however that may actually happen if I can't find what i'm looking for.

i think its going to be abit of a strech to get a 2004 VY GTS or VE R8 for 30k or under however VZ R8 or Z Senator will be no problem.

Work out some costs of doing the m6 conversion al factory (and i think you will be surprised by the cost)

As i mentioned before i think the way to go would be to buy Senator parts eg Front bar Rims and Boot spoiler (which are the major differences) and by selling the parts off the car (once again front bar rims n spoiler) it wouldnt cost you much. Not to mention the R8 gets the 4 piston brakes standard were as the 330mm twin piston is standard on the Senator .

I think that by this time next year/end of next year when i'm ready to purchase one that I wouldn't be looking at paying anymore than 25-30k for one of these especially an 07 VE Clubby as anything HSV doesn't seem to have a good resale value these days. Remember I started this thread about purchasing something in 12-18 months time as i'm in the planning stages at the moment eg : working out finances etc to do this and I need to know how hard they will be to come by + what sort of money approx I will need to get this moving. I also have to finish off my stroker build on my ss and i'm not sure if it's best to divert funds to the new project (this thread) or finish the stroker build i'm planning now.

I know a manual conversion will cost at least 6k and is probably not worth it but i'm really set on owning a Senator but i'll settle for an r8/gts if need be.

cheers - Matt

What about a VY Senator M6. Good luck finding one but they do exist.. I reckon the VY Senator front bar looks shit loads better than the VZ one anyway.

Mate I don't know about you but I'd rather an LS1 and an M6 than an LS2 and an A4. You can easily get more herbs out of an LS1 to be as good as an LS2. (300cc after all doesn't change alot and its not like the LS2 has got the great heads like the L98 does) Than be stuck driving a boring as bat shit slush box A4.

Trust me mate. While a Clubby is nice. Don't give up on an M6 Senator. All the toys and all the fun of a Man box.

Yeah I won't be buying auto as I want to actually drive my next car, and a manual conversion is way to expensive. The problem will come down to the age of the vehicle. I will be taking out a loan to purchase it and my bank will not loan money on anything that is over 10 years old or will be over 10 years old by the time the loan is repaid in full. Hence the issues with a 2004-05 vehicle. I want to take the loan over 5 years as we will also be purchasing a house late next year and I don't want to over commit myself financially. That leaves me with having to purchase an 06 plated vehicle onwards as by the time the loan would be repaid it will be 2015-16 depending if I did the loan late next year or early 2011. I may need to look into a VE Senator then compared to a VE Clubby.

When did they start making manual Senators again. Was it the very start of the VE or only recently?

Only recently and they are pretty much a clubbie with a senator kit on it.the senator signature is still auto only.
