This will not make you happy , but a mate of mine sold his 2 months ago for $9.5K . Had just under 200K on it & was a very clean car .

I guess have a look in the trading post & online to get a general idea of what they are selling for or moreso what people are asking .

$14k-16k REDBOOK (http://www.redbook.com.au/used-cars/details.aspx?R=71393&__Qpb=true&Cr=0&__Ns=p_Make_String%7c0%7c%7cp_ClassificationType_S tring%7c0%7c%7cp_Family_String%7c0%7c%7cp_Year_Str ing%7c1%7c%7cp_SequenceNum_Int32%7c0&silo=1300&__N=2994%202952%204294955531%204294843436%20429496 5872&__Nne=15&seot=1&acv=uUjX3ocMAXc.&trecs=12&gmid=2815261&__sid=1214857D509D)

Carsales is the easiest place to compare the specific model you're selling. All the others do a crap job differentiating between all the model designations eg VT VX etc

What ive found is that redbook prices are way under what people/dealers are asking. Ive often wondered if the redbook gets its prices from the ammount people put on their rego/notice of disposal when they change hands?
Anyone able to shed more light here?

Well, the car is 9 years old and would've cost around $55k when new, so that's life.

I think putting $15-16k on it and see if there are any bites, then lower the price from there.

It is a buyers market - especially for V8s in these times of financial restraint.

i think red book prices are discusting low... always have been....
i think of redbook as one of the main reasons why the arse falls out of second hand car prices because trade ins arnt worth shit to dealers.... so they offer **** all...
back when i bought my car before this one.... it was a vx ss, i shopped around for a while and at the time i paid 26 for it and that was a VERY GOOD price... my mate had the exact same car as me color and everything, only differnce was that his has 20k less on the clock... he went to trade it like a month later and red book said it was worth 13k!!!......
even now my clubby is worth not even over 20 apparently at best....... theres not a chance in hell id sell it under 20 k what a joke......

9.5K-11K trade in, you are better off selling privately but you already knew that.

Its a tough market for V8s, new car prices being low has made it extremely difficult for used cars.

Put it up in the forum for sale section you might be in luck or you could try selling it overseas, which is what I would do if it were my car.

A friend just picked up a vx r8 for $13k in great condition and around 120,000 kms. Its a buyers market for sure and you will be lucky to get anywhere near 15k, no offence intended.

Redbook does not influence the market. The Market dictates the price..

From Redbook:

How does RedBook arrive at the vehicle prices it quotes?

RedBook's price guides are derived from extensive research which encompasses obtaining details of sales through auction houses and motor dealers all around Australia, from vehicle manufacturers, from monitoring the classifed advertising in every major publication in Australia and from actual field research. This vast volume of data is reviewed by RedBook's expert pricing panel and adjustments made. Each month RedBook changes around 30,000 prices in its database of over 50,000 vehicles.

Know how you feel mate. I have the same vintage and paid 50k new.

Just hit 100k and given the money I've recently spent on it, it's a keeper for a while yet. For what it's worth, I haven't tired of the VTii Clubby styling.

You've recently put some maintenance dollars into yours too, I would hold onto it.

And post up some pics too! :)

So you paid $22,000 3 years ago, if you got $16,000 for it now that's a $2000 loss in 3 years, that's pretty good ($40 a week). Even if you let it go for $14,500 thats $2500 per year still not that bad ($50 week). I bought a new VS exec in 1997 for around $30,000 ($29,000 plus onroads from memory). Really after 12 years nobody wants them - only worth a few thousand - I only have 140,000 k on it (maybe I might get $3500 for it private sale with the k's being pretty good), so thats 12 years and about $26,000 loss - again a bit over $2,000 a year. To get lower depreciation you would have to buy say a 4 cyl car at around $20,000 - if you sell it in 10 years for say $5000 your depreciation is $1500 a year. Your depreciation was never going to be less than $2000 per year. Advertise it private somewhere along the lines Macca33 said, and see how you go - my feeling was somewhere around $16,000 at the most - if you got say $16,500 you would be doing extremely well. For your $40 - $50 week you have had the pleasure of having a HSV for 3 years not that bad a deal.

I reckon about 15 grand would be a good price for the Vt clubby maybe a tad more if it's in exceptional nick. I bought my Vy R8 for 22 which is a good buy I think.

Just an observation here and that is we all want to buy our cars cheaply but want top dollar when we sell em. I think the Op paying 22k for his car of a dealer and even if he sells it for 13k privately is doing pretty good really. 3 grand depreciation a year is pretty acceptable if you ask me.

cheers

I've got exactly the same car with 83,000km's in immaculate condition. I paid $24k 2 years ago and I think I would still get around $18k for it.(I'm in W.A. though). Any car that's 9+ years old, with low k's and in genuinely immaculate condition is always going to get a good price as most have been trashed. When I was looking for mine, I was also looking at VX's, and I after looking at 6 or 7 I hadn't seen one that I would say was in good condition, let alone immaculate as my VT is.

Unfortunately mate, things that you might feel add value to it don't.
New fuel pumps, o2 sensors, brakes etc are really just an indication of a used car, not one "potentially" better than other ones. Same goes for being detailed. People expect that anyway, as anyone that doesn't clean the car up for sale is simply an idiot with no idea.
Saying that though, the BIGGEST issue is simply the number of models released since yours came out. Each one drops the price even more.
Just check as many of the various sites/publications as you can. We can all say whatever prices we want, but any car is only worth what the person who buys it will actually pay you for it...:teach:

That's sort of my point. If there is someone looking for a particular car and most are in poor condition, they will happily pay a bit of a premium to pick up one that has obviously been looked after. I've even seen vr-vs Clubbys going for around $15k in good condition. There just isn't many nice ones left.

True.
This is a difficult market to pin down though unless advertising a highish price and seeing if anyone actually bites.
Saying this, the OP "appears" to have joined this site with perhaps the express intention of flushing out a buyer for his car via a generically worded feeler with a lot of detail...:hide:

I have an immaculate VT R8, full options, m6 , leather etc etc, low klms, vx gts 19's etc, books, i paid 18k with 10 months reg in march 2008, have been offered 20k on 2 occasions since.

I wouldnt part with a vt2 clbsport for under 14k. if sumbody wants that particular model car they will pay a reasonablle price, if they have no set demographic and would simply just be happy owning a car they see, they will offer a lower price

$20K is an excellent price for a VT2 R8. I have a VX R8 M6 (2000 build, 1st reg April 2001 about 86,000 k's now) I was doubtful it would be possible to get $20,000 for it now (paid $27,000 3 years ago - it is in excellent condition), $21,000 would be an excellent price - $2,000 per year loss - I was thinking $19,000 would be about best possible. Having said all that, it's a great car and I don't really want to sell - I was made redundant 3 weeks ago and I only drive the Clubby on a Sunday, so selling might be the sensible thing to do - but I love it and don't want to loose it.

Check on carsales what others are selling for.
My 2002 vx clubby black manual, ripshift, tex, cam, exhaust etc etc sold for $21 after being up for about 3 months.
I saw others down at $17,18 still unsold for a stock vx clubby.
