View Full Version : Tuners in Northern Suburbs of Perth

As the thread title suggests I am trying to find a recommended tuner in the Northern Suburbs of Perth. The prefered option tuners (sponsors) are all a long way off from where I live.
I have searched the forums far and wide and only came up with MCE at Wangara. Another suggested to me was WA Automotives in Balcatta? That's all I got.
Has anybody had any tunes done by the guys listed above? or are there others out there that forum members would recommend?:)

as much as it may be a pain to go SOR to get ur car tuned...its ur cars engine at risk so the inconvenience is nothing compared to continual problems and having it go bang
i didnt know WA Automotives did "tuning"
i know they are specialists at gearboxes, etc but tuning is news to me...especially since i live near that area

i remember my old man wasnt too impressed with his service bill back when he had his group-a.

I went there once when I had my HQ Monaro. Never recommended him to anyone after that. I've also heard a few horror stories more recently.

Went there for a dyno run.... They ended up cutting the eletric wire that goes to the connector above the first cylinder. They must have stripped that wire for some sort of sendor pick up during the dyno run. It was just hanging there by just a couple of strands. To crown it all they even left the stanley knife they used to strip the wire under the bonnet...

I'd seen Terry a few times when I first got my car for advice and a dyno test. Great bloke and no bull. Have a chat with him about what you'd like, as well to other tuners and decide from there.

hurricane, you tell us all (in another thread) that you're getting almost 250rwkw from your MAF tuned VX with basic mods, then ask how fast that'll get you down the 1/4 mile with the 3.07's that for some unknown reason you want to keep (they might be good if you have a snail or two under the bonnet, but you don't), then you have a go at Drew's quarter mile time which is nothing to sneeze at in the first place. What's the deal man?
You have no idea what you car will do with your claimed power figure (that is very, very high) but you know that Drew's car is a slug and you imply that 11.93@115mph is crap by your "boo hoo". Doesn't seem to add up.

Like EXCESSV posted Drews done all this on a shoe string budget no fancy parts even a second hand cam that he does not even know the specs of,
and the worst exhaust system I have ever seen on a Gen3 all this in a complete car not stripped out for the night.
Not bad for a near stock SV8

Hi,
I'm after a tune with MAF in Perth for my VE SS (L98), without getting my PCM locked.
Today I had a power run done at an independent Dyno, and before any software has been done it gave 252 kW, and over 550 Nm all the way from 2000rpm.
That is with a few mechanical changes. I have fitted the LS2 cam and LS2 headers bought cheap from Ebay, I have replaced the 'silencer' between the MAF and the trottle body with a smooth tube bend. I have done some porting on the intake to make the ports match better to the heads. Also I have ported away the welds inside the LS2 headers.
I still have the factory exhaust, but I have done some surgery inside the rear boxes to open them up a little.
All in all I have may have gained approx 40 rwkw for the $200 this has costed me.
One tuner quoted me $900 for a tune, and said it may add another 20 rwkw to my car. This tuner said I had to get rid of my stock air filter, and also that my stock exhaust (centre muffler) was a big restriction. Is it true that the centre muffler is just over an inch internal size?
The dyno run today is showing Air-fuel ratio of 14.5 up to 2500rpm, 12 at 3000 rpm, and gradually down to 10.5 at 5750rpm. Is this good?
Maybe I would be better of with spending my effort on the centre muffler and the air filter, (without the tune?)
I'm worried about 'butcher' tunes that disturbs the traction control, removes the MAF and has too agressive ignition timing so that it pings etc.
Any proposal who of the Perth tuners that you think would suit me best? Thanks for your advise
Tre-Cool

the afr's are pretty normal for a stocker.
have you thought about buying the software/controller and tuning your self?
