I thought it would be kinda cool to start a thread on Pickles and some of the wrecks that come in from time to time. I keep an eye on the auctions (looking for a project) and I know others here do too. This one is in WA:

"Heavy rollover" no shit sherlock! I hope this was no one's pride and joy from this forum :bawl:

Anyone looking for an AWD drivetrain for a project? This is your car. Stat writeoff I would presume (doesn't say in the listing)

Yeah for sure that would be a stat write off! Makes you wonder how these cars end up like this. Obviously people that cant handle or drive these performance cars in the first place. Then again it could be an insurance job.

Looks like a good place to start for some needed parts for a project car!
Senator interior looks nice! :) from the nature of the impact, does not look like interior would have damage either.

Looking at the car in the OP, it defintly shows they dont make them like they used to.
My brother rolled his 1978 Volvo 245 and the car was still drivable, and apart from the roof looking quite sad, it was hard to tell
Its taking less and less to write off a car now.
Find the right smashed up car, and they can be mostly intact

Anyone chasing a GTS?

Actually I'm calling BS that this is a GTS. No leather, turtle shell engine cover and being an 08/01 build that would make it a VXII, no? So it should have blacked out headlights like the HSV's had for the VXII...

just to show the stupidity of people over here, Dad was at the auctions this week and some idiot paid 4 grand for a boomerang monaro.
Power pole into the drivers side and it was bent accordingly. The only straight panel on the whole car was the bonnet.
Why someone would pay 4 grand is beyond me. we were prepared to pay $2k max.

Maybe an identical model/colour Monaro will get pinched next week, all numbers swapped over, and miraculously the wrecked one goes back into the used market. ;)
Insurance companies know it happens, but turn a blind eye to make a buck at auctions.
Supposedly there is a write off register, but rebirthing still happens.
Write off's should be destroyed.

A couple of Monaros are listed in Perth for this week's auction:

Don't know why it has a VXSS front bar on it

That one's a V6 - could be a good candidate for a heart transplant :)
But surely to Christ this thing has got to be a statutory writeoff:

I've got a mate who is panel beater and every car he buys is bent and buckled. Latest example VT series 2 Clubsport. LS1, 6 speed, sunroof. Bought it for $4000, spent $3000 on parts, got the whole lot straightened and painted. went over the pits and the lot.
Tell ya what if i had the know-how i wouldnt say no to a $7 clubby

ha ha i used to work at pickles welshpool and before that i was at manheim fowles in perth, both selling damaged cars.
i also buy and repair cars and bikes so the low wages did not matter considering the inside knowledge i got.
mate the insurance assessors are not even qualified panel guys/experienced,.
basicaly the tow truck drivers decide if it looks like a write off....drop it at pickles after hours, and in the morning the appropriate insurers (pickles = sgio gio, rac, western qbe, allianz) inexperienced assessor and office girl with camera walk and have a looksie.....get this.. if the bonnet is stuck closed (most are if front damaged then they get the pickles fork drivers (me) to lift bonnet up (RIP BONNET AND SLAM PANEL FROM CAR). this causes way more amage and its only so they can photo the vin plate to check if its the insured car. if bonnet is opeable hen its a quick photo of vin for the records and into the next auction it goes!! i have seen cars with like no damage getting sold as repairables..
pickles actually let you drive the repairable cars away without permits...so u can tell how many are not really bad damaged hey.
also they are clueless with makes, models and car specs...be careful as a catalogue mistake is YOUR problem not theirs..(whereasfowles will honour a catalogiue error or typo. i saw the pay for total aircon system once as thats what it was listed as)
the guys booking the cars in are 17-18 yr olds who know not a lot about cars.
i got sacked for being a smart arse when boss did not know what a certain car was.....i drove the fork over to the 3 bosses trying to decide if a corolla was a yaris or a echo??!! (it was rear damaged and the corolla had lost its badge......i pointed out that we dont have yaris wagons so it must be a yaris, i even pointed out the paint code and it was a jap built not south african. ha ha (2002 - 2004 hatch is south african, 05 -06 hatch and all sedan and wagon are jap.
anyway yeah watch he cataloues for mistakes and act on them ha ha
i myself bought a burned out bf xr6 to salvage the non burnt incubus mags.....after i bought it for 150 i get the invice for a vy commodore with same vin/reg details..ha ha
p.s camt open the old post pics in the post as pickles dont cache the .listings..i have hundreds of nasty write off pics...(and mine come with crash stories straight from claim form hahah

Based on the new laws every car damaged too far to eceomincally repair becomes a stat write off......should mean that the prices at auction for wrecks comes down and part become more freely available due to the number of additional cars that will be wrecked and no longer repaired...
