Hello im looking to upgrade my exhaust on my 06 ssv im currently running HM Headers and a 2.5 inch stainless xforce exhaust but i want more sound.I want to shake my boss's office when i start it, What do you guys think i can do,Would changing the 2 rear mufflers achive more of a v8 roar ? if so has anybody had any experience with the XFORCE VAREX ? http://xforce.com.au/cars/view_car/38

If so i would love to hear some feedback on this product and also price or any other ideas would be muchly appreciated.

Just do a search on Varex on here and you'll find heaps of reading. The few people I know who've had them have I think all sold them on. They do work as in when they are in quiet mode they are pretty quiet. However, judging by the one I heard when they are in loud mode the exhaust note is pretty harsh and not a nice one. Loud yes, nice no (to most people). I guess that's why some people get tired of them and sell them on.

I've heard a full twin 3inch xforce system(Black diamond's ute), it sounds absolutly awsome its got that nice v8 note on idle and that angry v8 note at full noise and there's no drone so maybe try replacing the 2.5inch with a twin 3inch xforce catback.

If you want to shake the bosses office, switch up to the 3" Xforce and remove the middle mufflers, only cats and rear reso, it's a lot louder but is reasonably quiet when your not into it with the right foot.

YouTube - VE SS Commodore Exhaust .. little rev (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1RV_54zBI4)

thats my full 3" varex exhaust, headers cats are all xforce too, drones a lot wide open, pretty noisey unless its shut completely but very handy to have

the varex wide open is a lot louder than the regular 3" xforce mufflers

i donno how other people can possibly think the xforce exhausts dont drone, even my 2.5" droned a little... pretty cheap shit really but the varex makes it all good. as it is with the full 3" and varex i am extremely happy

I have had a couple of x force systems, one on a near stock 346 (cam and tune) which was 2.5 inch, was very happy with it, now i have the stroker and a twin stainless 3 inch that i am also very impressed with, i have found that the drone /cackle on back off all relate to the tune of your car i have seen a few exhausts on cars with minor bolt on mods with out a tune and they cackle and drone, then after the car has been tuned to suit great impovement, i think this is mostly to do with the need for a tune to suit modification, any way that my experiance with x force....

Sound is personal preference, ive got a twin 3'' xforce and find its sounds best over 3000 rpm, I stood outside and the girlfriend did a diveby and it sounded real barky and a tad too loud. For the price they are a good system but reakon theres better sounding combos out there.

Each to there own but the diffillipo 3'' i thought sounded pretty spot on for a nice deep sound without being obnoxious but they arnt cheap

Yer totally agree also depends on the package in front of it too, twin three inch is more aimed at cubes cam shaft, induction etc etc maybe there is not enough air speed to produce the sound your after for a twin 3 inch..as i said in my first post compatability and tune to suit are also a big factor in the sound...

here is mine with the twin three inch x force YouTube - CHV408 - Southside Performance Dyno Day (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOOnX6cRry0)

It is a personal preference, I like how it has an angry supercar sound, have had plenty of ppl pull up beside me at the lights and tell me it sounds awesome and asking what I have had done to the car. Have had what some would call more refined sounding exhausts before but was always wanted something that was loud and angry ha ha. Don't know if that short vid is the best representation of what it actually sounds like, very echoey, was done using vid mode on a stills camera

There seems to be variation in X Force systems soundwise. I've heard a few 3 inch systems lately that don't seem very loud - engine noise still very apparent.

The difference could be between catback and full system (in headers and high flow cats)? full system should sound different to catback only on a stock car

Should have mentioned I meant full systems not catbacks only

Personally I think the Varex is a good idea but I have seen 2 people at 2 different muffler joints having their Varex systems taken off.
One was a SSV Sportswagon with twin 2 1/2" and twin varex mufflers.
Removed and replaced with stock cat back, said it droned badly when open.
The other was a VY11 HSV 285 with single 3 1/2" single varex with twin tips.
Put his old std system back on same reason "Drone" when open.
Also both said the sound when open wasn't that good either, more of a scream than a V8 roar.

Wow thanks guys, alot of interesting feedback there.
Im going to see a friend of a friend on the weekend with a full 3'' s/steel exhaust i need to hear it for my self b4 i think about an exhaust swap.
and for the varex iv recived too much bad feeback seems they do work in the way of loud/quiet via the push of a button but not a nice exhaust note.
What price range would i be looking @ for a full 3'' system defiantly stainless steel i love the look.

i think people have the wrong idea about when getting a varex, they are trying to drive around with it wide open showing off and just to close it when the cops are around, i dont think thats how it should be .. atleast not for me, you just open it when you are having a squirt then close it to cruise along.

you cant drive with it wide open all the time, varex is essentially a straight pipe when wide open like cutting off the rear resonators, its overly loud but thats the point of it because you can have it at such a stupidly high level of volume to muck around with then lower it, are people going on trips with it wide open or something for them to dislike it so much lol

Exactly! I drive with mine closed 90% of the time. Just open it up when I want to play. Every conventional 3" exhaust I have heard is too loud for me, but with the Varex I can have a quiet exhaust and still have maximum power available at the push of a button when I want it.

I don't understand why some folks think they have to have it open more often than closed, then complain about it being too loud. Especially when cruising on the freeway - why on earth would you have it open then?

thinking about getting the varex on my vy, is there anyone in melbourne who has one who would be happy for me to have a listen to it?

Not answering your question sorry bluethunder!

About the stuff said above - i think they are a good thing for people who like adjustability
On my old car when i had them on, it wasn't a case of just closing when cops are around - it was good to be able to shut the car up when mum was in the car, my grandparents, customers and others. It was also good to be able to come home late and not wake up mum and dad too!
Also, because i had it on an Auto VE alloytec, drone was something that is a given, so i could do a long hwy drive without getting a headache! Happy days!

Now it didn't give the deepest note, but it was 95% as good as other setups i had on the car!

Doesn't compare to my 1 7/8ths hurricane headers and cats into a dual 2.5inch Manta on my SSV wagon though! I love it........

my VZ is loud as faarrrk.

my mum yelled at me for giving it some.. i was 4-5 blocks away lol.

1 3/4s 4into1s, 3inch cats, 2.5inch catback. no rear resi.

from what ive read/heard, most systems wont drone too bad with a set of extractos and cats.

mine being an auto, there is barely any drone.. even on the highway its not brrrrrh, its more brobbrbrbrbrbrbrbr

Similar to my setup prior to the cam. You think that is loud as ****,
wait till you wack a decent sized cam in, they get real loud and
obnoxious then :)

If you want something that you can adjust the noise on, why not look into installing some electronic butterfly valves in each of the pipes.

Just search up Apexi ECV valve to get a concept of the idea, they are used alot on jap cars.

I have a 4 into 1: 1”3/4 primary , 3” secondary cat-back all polisged stainless steel and it sounds great over 3000rpm. idling though it doesn't sound all too bad, i've heard better. but i suppose it all comes down to your taste.

Mate

I bought the full xforce system from headers cats and 3 inch varex muffler, it is the best value for money i have spent on an exhaust, it sounds great and the varex works great for the missus, i wanted an aggressive muffler and the 3 inch xforce sounds like a supercar full open and like a stock standard when closed, you wont be dissapointed, however i can only speak for the full system

I had a listen to 2 diff vs's with xforce systems and varex mufflers and i love it,But b4 i can purchase them im after a cam+otr-cai+tune,
What price would i be looking at ? I only after a mild cam since my ssv is a daily driver,I really like that lumpy idle will i get that with a mild cam ?
