Hi guys
I picked up my SSV wagon this afternoon and was wondering if any one has compared the two in the past?
First i would like to say "Yes i know one is a wagon and the other is a sedan" I know someone is bound to say that :)
Driving the wagon home i noticed the following
The wagon is a smoother ride to my sedan
The wagon is not as noisy in the cabin as the sedan
In this case the auto in the wagon acts like an auto and not a forgetful woman (Sorry girls)
I have found the wagon more a pleasure to drive over the sedan (Please dont put this down to talking myself into it as i just bought it, i am overly critical on anything i buy for the better and worse)

I know you get 2 subs in the rear parcel shelf in the sedan :) the wagon dont have them :P

suspension components and setup would be different obviously, longer wheelbase.
as for the auto in the wagon. Isn't it the exact same auto?
the wagon would be heavier to so probably sits at speed a little bit better.
But this is all a guess. :)

pretty sure they r the same wheel base. funny you say that the wagon is better to drive. We went from a 07SS sedan to a 08SSV wagon and I rekon the same. It sound crazy but the visiblity at the rear is much better. probably because of the stupid placment of the rear spoiler on the sedans.
We are lovn it. Cheers Ian

Yeh same here went from an 06 VE SS sedan to an 08 SSV wagon, the wagon is so much nicer to drive just miss changing the gears now :(

I've gone from an 08 SSV to an 09 SSV Wagon, and I've found alot of things nicer in the wagon,... But I feel its probably more 'running changes' with noise reduction, better materials, etc, etc.. They 09 SSV sedans are probably alot better in all these aspects than the older ones too.
EDIT:
BTW they are definitely the same wheelbase.

Not disregarding changes, sounds like there's a few wagon converts :yahoo: gotta love the wagon for practical reasons as well as their look, but as you guessed............just a little biased:cheers:

as others have said maybe its because the sedan was an older car and the wagon is the newest model... apparently there are alot of changes underskin from an 06 - 09...
i have heard from a few people that the wagons are boomy and noisy inside.. interesting to hear that a few people here say its quieter?
I wonder being quieter has anything to do with the SSV wagons having Michelins and not the Bridgies?
Im a fan of the wagon aswell, but am told my 07 SSV is worth shite and the changeover price is more than I like :(

Ive got the SSV wagon, and Im glad as I drove a couple of sedans and much preffered the wagon for overall comfort, and they handle like they're on rails :smilesandbanana:
For a big trip, I love the wagon, but for weekend cruise, I cant go past the monaro though

The wagons are around 90 kg heavier than the equivalent sedan and consequently have stiffer rear springs (up about 20%, much like Kings and Pedders) with stiffer shockers to match. The wagon has a 12mm rear sway bar to compensate for the extra roll resistance offered by the springs. The sedan has a 18mm rear bar. Both sedans and wagons have an identical wheelbase and identical front suspension setup. Hence any handling difference is due to the heavier rear weight riding on heavier rear springs. The weight distribution is now biased more to the rear on wagons ... less understeer. Wagons will always have more road noise due to the greater volume available to "boom" or echo noises. The heavier weight of the wagons makes the car feel more stable compared to the FE2 setup in the sedans that is way too "jiggly" at normal speeds around town. The heavier wagon feels more planted. Lighter cars always bounce around more than heavier cars. Mechanically the wagon is identical to the sedan and both still have massive tramp issues.

Yeah i had also heard the wagons were noisy but am totally wraped that its such a nice ride, when taking it for a test drive it seemed great but i had in the back of my mind that driving it for a longer period things might start poping up.
When i got home last night i was pretty impressed with the ride over all and could not get it out of my head, so about 11pm i desided to grab the misses and take a ride from Sunbury to Rye and back 280k return trip and still bloody happy

correct from what I have been told (by dealer/Holden ppl)..... the wagons weight distribution is closer to 50/50 than the sedans one reason for the better handling (as well as stiffer springs etc)
I test drove a SSV sedan, HSV R8 and the SSV wagon... the wagon was my preferred ride (the reason I bought it)
the only difference that I can see between the SSV sedan and SSV wagon is the crap exhaust noise the wagon makes compared to the sedan :vpo:
..made more noticable by how quiet the wagons are . (the exhaust systems are definitely not the same!)
its the one thing about the wagon I am working on fixing (just need to save more reddies :1peek: )
otherwise the wagon is a far better thing  imho
The wagon gets reversing sensors as standard equipment but the sedan does not.

Are the front and rear sway bar fitments the same for VE sedans and wagons? ie. Interchangeable?

No-one has fitted sway bars to their wagon?

I love my R8 Wagon! Much more practical than a sedan and rarer.
Anyway the differences for me - I've had about 6 wagons now and they've all had more road noise compared to a sedan, and unfortunately it still seems the same way with the VE. It also sucks that we have to put up with exhaust drone when we put an aftermarket system on but there can be ways around it.
Otherwise, still happy with it :D

In one you can fit the dogs in the back, in the other you can fit the dogs in the back legally.
I love my ssv wagon.....just need to get my license back now:bawl:
