Hey all,

looking at cheapest place to get Toyo Semi Slicks for my car.
In particular the R888 and for a 18" rim.

the tyres for the car should be a 245/45/18 with 96V load rating but it seems the toyos dont come in anything near that :(

now in 45series they have no 18 based on there AUS website which means speedo etc will be slightly out but not such a big issue at the track

The closest i am gonna get is:
245/40ZR18 93Y
255/35ZR18 94Y
265/35ZR18 97Y (Meets and exceeds load rating) but may rub at the front guards

From the site:
30 SERIES
335/30ZR18 102Y
315/30ZR18 98Y
295/30ZR18 98Y
285/30ZR18 97Y
35 SERIES
275/35ZR18 99Y
265/35ZR18 97Y
255/35ZR18 94Y
40 SERIES
245/40ZR18 93Y
235/40ZR18 91Y
225/40ZR18 92Y

now if i go the 265/35ZR18 97Y that meet the load rating will rolling the front guards mean i can get away with it and from my calculations by going wider 245 to 265 the lower profile over stock 45 to 35 means the sidewall may be very close to the size of the one for the stock 245/45/18????

load rating is a big thing for me as i am gonna need it for the track but also as they are a street legal tyre i want them to be right as i will probably drive to the track with them on from home or the workshop

Just get RE55s, they make them in that size and are the best track tyre by far.

Just get RE55s, they make them in that size and are the best track tyre by far.nope not even they have a correct tyre and load rating.

there 245/40/18 needs an 8.5" wide rim and a load rating is only a 93W
the SS 18" rims are a 18x8 and yet they run 245/45/18 96W from factory

Very interested in this thread...........

How much are the R55's and how do they compare with the A048's (that the brute utess use) and the 888's.

Excessive: Check ebay and St george online....on Ebay... They usually have them in stock pretty cheap from what I've seen.

Cheers

hmmmm...not sure about that
depends on the car and suspension setup

having tried the RE55s, Yoko A032s, AO48s and Dunlop DO1Js (used in Commodore Cup)
I prefer the Yoko AO48s on my VK clubbie. I will try the Toyos next time, as I now have contact to a Toyo dealer
thru the car club

after speaking to the WA distributor for Toyo i need to have a look at my tyre placard and check what the load rating minimum is or recommended for the VE SS 18" rims...not sure if my SSV contains the SS rims tho so will see tonight on the car

but from what it seems ROAD LEGAL both TOYO and Bridgestone have nothing that will fit :(

looks like i will have to check other brands hoping for a size as i want to remain the legallity on the road so i can drive to and from the track

my reasoning behind the Toyo over the bridgies was the fact that the Toyos are just a bit cheaper than the Bridgies but last quite a bit longer and on the track for what i want will be near on par for track times to the Bridgies. i know the Toyos are slower than the Bridgies but i aint out there for every tenth right now. its more having something thats a big difference in grip to running around in street 20s so that i can just get out there and have some fun

Excessive: Check ebay and St george online....on Ebay... They usually have them in stock pretty cheap from what I've seen.

Cheersthanks for that.
Saw St George on Ebay last night but only had the WRX ones so called them just then and so far a WINNER! cheapest by far!

the WA distributor was well and above the RRP!!!!!

Hornibrook motorsports, Ask for Craig. thanks for that. Spoke to Craig but his price was well up there

Everyone i spoken to has said i am not gonna get a Street Legal Load Rated Semi Slick for the VE. Tyre manufacturers for the Semi Slicks just not bothering as the ones they have meet and exceed the weight specs of the car but not the "recommended" load rating by holden

so it looks like gonna have to swap rims at the track or risk driving to the track hoping i dont have an accident or get pulled over :(

I dont know if they are anygood. Could be an option if the load rating is ok.

They will fit on the ve 18" rim legally providing the load rating is ok.

load rating is 99 something so exceeds what i need which is a bonus...tyres will be a bit bigger than the stock SS ones but for track work doesnt matter..probably better being a touch bigger with more sidewall and width for extra performance

just need to see if they are any good compared to the R888

255 isn't a legal fitment on an 8" rim.
245 is as wide as you can go. 255s need an 8.5", 265s a 9".

Something else to consider in the pursuit of legality.

This is an interesting point.
I have spoken to several tyre suppliers and i have been told that a 255/45/18 is legal on a 8" rim but a 255/40/18 is not.
This is not my trade just information i have been given from retail and wholesale people in the industry.
I hope i am right as i have been using this size for two years thinking they were legal.
Might be worth looking into before you purchase.

I'VE BEEN A LESBIAN MY WHOLE LIFE...........

Just to throw the cat amongst the pidgeons, I mentioned to Excessive today that my 18' wheels (VE SS) rears have a 275/35r18. Now I know all the guides etc, but having the extra rubber is always a help. I have never felt the rim was squirming inside the tyre. I am currently using the falken RT 615 with reasonable results. If it wasn't for the fact that I spent about $4000 on wheels and tyres in a week, I would have also gone for the Toyo's.

I'll price these up tomorrow and post for the relevant parties.

even speaking to the Toyo technician in Sydney today along with the tyre placard off the car i can go the 245/40/18 93Y all around on the 18x8 rims
still not street legal as the lowest rating on the placard is 94W

gotta weigh some things up now :(

Yep, dodgy parallel imports, same as St George Tyres. If you needed to wash cash you would probably import tyres yourself like these blokes do!

They are like $900 a tyre but Mitchelin Pilot Sport heavy duty do up to 710kg per tyre (96 load rating). Expensive but still a semi slick of sorts and plenty of tyre size options even 19s.

I guess your looking at 245/40R18's, don't they need a 8.5" rim(not sure why????)

Found soom falken RT-615's on ebay from St george $700 for 2 but seems ther not as good as say RE 55's

They are 255/45/18's no load rating given, but pretty close to factory size and should fit a 8" rim????(think 245 is max legal though)

yes 8.5" stated on bridgestones site but it he and other tyre shops have no issue with it on a 18x8 rim

Saw those Falken on ST George ebay page and have done alot of research on them. imported tyres and usually dates are old. so rather pay a little more and get a newly built tyre from a AUS distributor
