Hi all
Finally bit the bullet and bought some Compomotive rims for the track. (Barbs)
2 x (18 x 9)
2 x (18 x 8)
Fitting Bridgestone RE55 245 x 40R18 (front), 265 x 35R18 (rear)
Thought the Wheels were going to be white but came silver similar to stock rims.
Going to have them painted white (V8 supercar look)
What do ya recon ? or leave them as is ?
Checked clearances today before paint and mounting of tyres.

http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn16/masonba/DSC01119.jpg
Also ordered front set of DBA rotors and hats to try them out on the track.
(dont want to completely trash (any more) my stock rotors)
will let those that are interested in the brakes, how they perform. :driving:

Always loved the quality of Compomotive rims. These look very good in silver and white would look good also but the brake dust etc might trash the white a bit.
I'm surprised some smart ass hasn't commented on the understeer/traction problems you may encounter (no tyres)

already done tuna :goodjob:
added that before the last outing, however Im led to believe the factory gauge reads high? So ive got a temp logger hooked up to the return piping from the cooler to confirm temps. ( make me relax hopefully)
Have you got any data? on oil temps. would be interested in others views, experience.
Will post up details on rims.(got them off here anyway from another post)

Just enough to have some fun
Already spent some $$ on the motor etc.
Looking at some coil overs at the moment. Trying to get something a bit more adjustable.
Will be removing all the goodies and building a project car in the future once I get somewhere with some room or rent some workshop space.
Until then I shall continue to pour my hard earned money into the damm thing
Its all good fun pretending to be a race driver... haha

Those look good. Kinda Ferrari style.
Those Comp rims do look good and will look great in mat black.
The bob Jane 18s you can get for $275 each fit the VE HSV Brakes too (18x8 though). A member on here found they have the clearance for the GTS brakes not too long ago. Should start seeing some more HSV VEs out on the circuit hopefully.

they will do the job great, it looks weird 18's on a HSV, they look so small, but will handle greatly on the track, i reckon leave them silver, you wont have any issues with paint peel etc down the track (pardon the pun).

What was the price just for the rears?

Left my note pad at home with all details of car stuff (Oops...missus will find it):hide:
Will post up rear rim prices when I get home.
Setup should be good for 1/4 mile as well (semi slicks) and can buy some slicks for the rears if I want to get serious.
The jack is from supercheap, alloy/low clearance job...works fine.
Meeting the powder coater tonight, said about $20 per rim.....WTF cheap as
I recon. Will verify that one.
Tyres are from Kerry at tyre shop in Bentley. Bridgestone motorsport rep.
This is from the other post in here:
They are Compomotive M06 - http://www.stuckey.com.au/wheels.aspx
Front - 18 x 8 et 45 weight with tyres (235/40R18) 21.8kg
Rear - 18 x 9 et 38 weight with tyres (264/35R18) 22.8kg
by comparison the HSV GTS rims with tyres are -
Front - 29.4kg & Rear - 32.4kg
I weighed them last night and above details are spot on.

Glad to see someone else has picked up on these rims, I've been running them on my VE Maloo for about 12 months now at track days and in the Dutton. You really notice the difference in weight when you're changing them over with the standard alloys.
I left mine silver and just learned to live with the dust, they are only used on the track.

Yeah, not worried about dust etc, only for track work . Blew me away when lifting the standards off last night compared to the comps.

I just had the pleasure of spending Monday at an almost empty (only 8 cars) Oran Park and had a blast learning the track and tweeking the suspension.
I had Hessmans in Sydney install a full Bilstein coilover setup with settings for tarmac rally rather than full circuit, but it still works way better than standard on any circuit.

Never easy is it!!
Found the powder coaters(drove around and around trying to find them) guy tells me to go to the sandblasters down the road....... go down the road looking for sandblasters, found it finally, guy takes one look and says it would have some special paint or etch on it and it is hard to get off.
Might do minor damage to rims getting it off and then powdercoater will have to prime and prep before powder.
Sends me to painters down the road........yep found it.
Guy carries on about how hard it will be bla bla bla $500
Fuc this
back to square one to think about it for WHILE.

x2, red car, black wheels.....Oh I have one of them.......lol
Oh and on the powdercoat, tell them not to powdercoat the flange
surface of the rim.....where the rim faces up to the brake rotor.
The powdercoat remelts under track conditions and then you are
stuck with a wheel glued to the rotors......no need to ask how I
know this....

There are some Bob Jane ones around as well for the rear but not sure they clear the fronts.

leave 'em silver , as the special paint is there for a reason ,
and you're only using them for the track .
or go back to where you got them and see if you can exchange them for the white ones you wanted .

Received an E-mail from Compomotive via Stuckeys and the rims were powdercoated. So rang Caningvale Powdercoaters this time and they are going to do them for me.
Received front set of DBA rotors today so will fit them tomorrow. Will keep you all posted about how they perform on the track next Sat.
Thought I would give them a go.
Bilstein coilovers going on next Tues along with a new shifter.(current one has a few minor issues)

BMdepends how pedantic u are Brent.
best would be to take front rotors off give a light skim, clean the pads and reinstall
u could get away with taking pads out and giving a clean but depends on damage of rotors as in how hard u have braked and how many kms u done like that
also carefull when bleeding the brakes...air in the abs isnt fun :(

The rotors are new and the mark rubs off, so what do I clean the pads with?
sheeks84
06-08-2009, 09:44 PM
Get down to Repco, or Autobarn, and buy some brake cleaner. Remove the pads, find yourself a nice smooth bit of concrete floor, and apply some brake cleaner to the pads, and rub them on the concrete in a figure eight motion. Alternatively, use some medium grade sanding paper on the concrete, to save making a mess. If they are still grooved, take the rotors to your local brake shop and get them machined, but i shouldnt think they will need it, as they are still quie new.

with those front Drummonds, i would look to get shorter springs to bring the spring seat up above the tyre shoulder. The springs they supply standard are too tall for a commodore circuit setup, i bet you ended up with less camber (or much the same) as standard struts? Take advantage of what a coilover is capable of; a few hundred bucks on shorter springs will yield another 1.5* neg camber. well worth it.

Brad at WA Suspensions is working on the setup.
He has found a fair bit of neg camber compared to standard setup.
Will let you know how it goes.
Just an update on the Mal Wood T56 road/race gearbox. Drove it home tonight ready to take back to Brad at WA Suspensions.
Have to say what an incredible transformation. It is absolutely fantastic :woohoo:
The shifter is so good I dont know where to start. Makes a billet shifter or rip shifter feel like its out of a HQ.
Short shift movement and no side play at all, very direct and the ratios are awesome, specially from 4th to 5th (Barbs main straight looking real good)
Highly recommended(so far) and thanks to Mal and Jim at APC

It sounds like you like it to stay looking nice so I'd suggest getting some of that 3M clear coat protection stuff for your wheel arches as they cop a pasting from your own track tyres, even with it on the car, after a season of track days/supersprints it will need replacing and after 2 seasons, paint will more than likely still be required. If you can, get the front of the car done too, although this area doesn't cop it as much as the wheel arches as most of the stuff coming off the other cars has a chance to slow down a little before it hits your car, and your racing the clock, not the car in front.
I am hanging up my GTS Coupe as a track/Dutton Rally car and will be painting all the mentioned areas because of everything I just spoke about.
I don't work for 3M either by the way.

Hi there, I am a newbie on this site. I am building a VE R8 for the 2011 12 hour and I wondered if you can update me on the DMS shocks. What did they cost and what negative camber do you get? Chris
