Pop on down to your local Salvo's, and buy something on a hanger.
IMPORTANT!: make sure its one of those metal one's from the shettled workshops.
Bend the curved bit straight
Stick it in the hole and there you go.
Perfet, low profile, high-gain aerial!:)

Yep, and a bit of JJJ. Radio is all I listen too, haven't had a disk
in my car for years.
I have been through 2 radio masts in 9 years, the first one was
snapped off when the car was freighted to Darwin from Nowra.
The second one is still going strong after nearly 5 years and
goes up and down at least 4 times a day. I try and remember
to wash it and wipe it over with WD40 every now and then.

Yep these sorts of things happen a lot from what I have found here.
Mine is stuffed too (rope I think) and I am having a new guard fitted next week because of a nice dent, so may as well put a new one in while the guard is off even though you don't have to normally do it that way.
Makes me wonder if these antennas are made in China like just about everything else these days?
No offense intended though in my above statement. :1peek:

They're quite expensive from Holden but you're definitely better off replacing it with a genuine one. Aftermarket is shit. If you're always in the city I also recommend trying the radio with the antenna extension power unplugged. If you get good service leave it down, otherwise it's easy to plug the power in and have it extend again :) It's a straight forward job to replace too.

I think the door locks/actuators are made in Africa now after that long run of crap ones where the solenoid would bugger up!

After being threw about 4 antenna's on my old commodore I learnt that if you prevent them from going full height you prolong their life considerably. With my current car that's easy as it has AE height support in the BCM. For my last car (VN SS) I installed the Calais AE module to control it which defaulted to half height.. Have never broken one since.

Bend it into the map of Australia FTW.
... for added realism, dangle a paper clip from the bottom as 'Tasmania'.
Improves reception in rural areas too!

mines been getting a bit sticky lately.
cut the aerial power wire today :goodjob:
Here's what you do.. Jack the car up, Undo the guard to access the antenna.. Snip the + wire and then put an extension cable on both sides of the cable you just cut in through the hole to the inside of the cabin and then feed it up under the carpet through the back of the glove box. Mount a small 2 way button there and soldier each wire on there.. Whalla.. you can turn the antenna off and on at the flick of a switch and you won't have it going up and down all the time and go get a ipod or something and listen to that instead. Radio music is all trash anyway.. I don't know whe we don't have digital satellite radio here yet.. FM is so oldschool.. Then we would do away with the need for big arse antennas on cars..
My history of antennas:
VK - Replaced it twice
VR - Froze up and I just pushed it in and left it down permanently.
VX - Replaced for the current one that still doesn't go all the way down. About to put a on/off toggle switch on it.

I'm a mechanic and change antenna masts all the time. Usually you just undo the nut on top and pull the broken part(s) out. Then turn the radio on, wait for the motor to stop turning (antenna all the way up) feed the rope of the new mast in till it wont go any further, then turn the radio off and the antenna motor pulls the new mast in while you feed it in, Nut back on top and your all done. Except when there's broken bits of the rope left in the motor. Then you have to pull the inner guard out and pull the antenna motor out and apart to get the broken bits out!!!
