Don't try that in Australia though.....
The Currency Act stipulates the rules outlined in the table below.
Denomination Quantity
1c & 2c Maximum of 20 cents
5c, 10c, 20c & 50c Maximum of $5
$1, $2, $5 & $10 Not exceeding ten times the face value, inclusive
ie a maximum of $100 for $10 notes (10 x $10)
Any other denomination To any value

I remember when the harbour bridge toll went up & people were told to protest by paying in 5 cent coins.. They then put up a sign to say you could only pay so much in 5 cent coins..

LOL reminds me when I took a heap of 5c and 10c pieces (about $200 odd worth) to get changed to notes. It was a local bank that starts with W and the bank teller cut sick at me for wasting her time and wouldnt change my money unless I had a bank account with them. They didnt use scales at the time but I had them bagged in $10 lots, so it wasnt to bad for her.
But it was too much effort for her I guess.
They must have really tough jobs!

The bank has every right not to change the money if you don;t have an account why should they change your money. Go to your own bank, banks get a lot of justified comments but come on......

I keep my coins in the car.
I used to bag them and take them to the bank, but I use them in the mornings for my tall Latte ,$3-80, in the drive thru at Maccas.
$1 and $2 coins I save.
Mostly pay for the coffee in 20,10 and 5 cent pieces. Takes them a while to count it.
By that time the coffee is ready...... off I go.

Even if you tied a pretty bow around the pre bagged coins it wouldn't matter a toss, they still have to count it themselves!! If they don't have scales etc...

Well i didnt say whether I had a bank account with them or not, DONT ASSUME we all know what that means!
Fortunately for me it was my bank( had been for 12 or more years), I just wasnt impressed with the her attitude, they are there to serve customers, so you would think they would have some basic customer skills?
Im no expert but If it was me I would of politely asked if the person(me) had bank account with them, then if not told told them I couldnt change it because of this. Not cut sick at them to start with. i didnt even get a chance to say I banked there before she went crazy at me.

So the 10k I paid for the car with $50 notes was actually not permissable?

So you didn't actually read that text that you quoted?
See that line at the bottom that reads...
Any other denomination To any value
That would include $50 notes.......
there is also as case of the receiving party having final discretion. say a shop wants a lot of small change, they can choose to accept any amount of any denomination. But they are legally allowed to refuse the money as payment if the amounts in the table are exceeded.
Simon.

Nice backpeddling......
LOL That's hilarious. It does show the extreme that somebody will go to prove a point.. I guess that chick would have been pissed haha..
