Hey guys,
Just joined finally after browsing on here for a while. I recently got my first ever HSV, a 09 VE R8 white, after owning a VESS ute (which I sold), must say its a great step up from the Holden's in terms of handling, BRAKES!!! (the SS had no brakes at all!) and just feels like the SS should have.
To be honest though its no jet, don't get me wrong its got some go but I was over it on day 2 and it feels like its getting slower (maybe im getting used to it). Done 15.000kms now, serviced every 5,000 and no issues yet. More embarrassing was a BA Turbo flogged me, and I mean left me for dead (bloody silent killers those T's). And again a new FG XR Turbo stuck right next to me after a squirt. Should this be happening .
I'm stuck because I don't really want to start modding, done that before and it starts off small and you don't stop. The car eventually becomes an object in the garage and becomes a weekender while I put around in an old hilux. I do drive for work and like a large cumfy car, but I want it to have some GO without sacrificing the drive ability.
What are some of you other HSV boys getting with simple mods, I'm happy to do exhaust because it sounds like a v6 atm and maybe a few other little things but don't want to start going too far.
Look forward to the feedback, oh also do some of you have a bloody rattle in the drivers door, if so what is it???? its annoying!!!
Cheers

Exhaust (only if you can tolerate it being louder)
OTR
Tune
That will give it some mumbo.
BTW do you have any idea what was done to the fords. They will make big power with little mods. Maybe you should've bought one of those then.
Excellent

What are you worried about? If you don't want to mod it don't. :)
The Fords are now generally quicker than the Holdens. Not many cars can stay with the turbo Fords so if I were you I wouldn't worry. Just enjoy the car and don't mod it!

nothing unusual about a ford turbo staying or beating a HSV or any v8 for that matter , to be honest if you dont want to mod it then dont , even if you do decide to mod it chances are another modded ford turbo will do you in again (depending on your chosen mods)... theres always someone faster..
for drivability maybe just a maff-less edit and otrcai , maybe cat-back , wont effect the drivabilty much if at all , russo did a these mods to a gts and it got a 12.7 in street trim (auto) , just a suggestion IF you do decide to up the performance a bit..

Full Exhaust, Maffless and OTR! Fair gains and throttle response to be had with those 3 things.. But as always... once you pop you cant stop.. :)

ain't that the truth
12 months ago i had a diesel hilux.
Now a LS3 maloo with intake, zaust and tune.
Now want a Supercharged Tourer as the Maloo feels too slow now :(
Lunkily the missus thinks swapping my Ute for a Wagon is a good idea.:goodjob:

AndrewR8, there is always going to be someone faster than you ,so don`t worry about other Fords and Holdens ,that have been modified.
You really should do just the basic mods , Full exhaust ,OTR and tune. These mods will make a significant improvement and you will enjoy your car even more. It will sound better, go better and you might even see an improvement in fuel consumption.....Cheers

What's the point in spending the money if he'll still get beat? I thought AndrewR8 was interested in knowing how to beat the turbos with the right mods or should I say that's the way it came across to me?

Everyone knows the HSV's in stock form are the slowest in the VE range!!! :hide:

ROFL !!!
i wouldnt worry about the BA turbo beating you - he must have had some work done to it so its not a fair comparison stock VE vs tuned BA.... unless it was a BF with the ZF box then it could have been stock too..
either way i reckon ya need a zorst at least to hear the V8 rumble.. but your right once ya start its always "maybe I should get a better intake/zorst/plugs/injectors/cam/smelly tree etc" haha

I think we all know there is no shame in getting beat by an XR6T as they do haul ass and are really ford's answer to the VL although somewhat late but certainly a formidable effort. Having just gone the three mods (exhaust/mafless tune/otrcai) myself after waiting 3 years I have to ask why did I wait so long. Andrew, the emissions laws and government influence over what we can buy off the showroom floor will always limit us to "compliant" cars that simply can't be left alone and played with for enhancement.. I'd say go the three mods if you're gonna keep it for some time but if it is a co car or is leased and will be flicked then leave it stock. Generally, stock cars will fetch a better dollar more often than a modded one. Tough choice but we all know you'll be reaching for your wallet before too long lol Good luck which ever way you go.
PS: If I wasn't genetically influenced to dislike fords from birth I'd probably own a stove hot XR6T meself !! :hide:

Definitely agree with LS1-5.7 on this
Go exhaust/mafless tune/otrcai. These motors need to breathe
I did the mod on my VZ Clubby and its a different animal. Gained nearly 30Kw at the fly in the process, and the sound she makes when she opens her lungs now is :D

lol she ? nonchalant ??? you're obviously not married as most married households will only tolerate ONE who must be obeyed and honoured etc etc
certainly not 2 .... Oh did I mention the fuel economy saving associated with these mods ? They will pay for themselves very very slowly ;)

Funny you should question that. Im just about to move to NSW to move in with my fiance and already I sense a bit of jealousy between her and my car, so much so the price of the required engagement ring has gone up to match the recent money Ive spent on some mods...(I sh*t you not). But hey its her money so what do I care.. :deal:

Mate just enjoy your ride without having to prove anything. I'm constantly getting guys wanting to race me but these days with anti-hooning laws etc you are better off keeping it in your pants.
The Ford turbo 6 motors are proven V8 killers. Let's not add more anecdotal evidence their list.
FWIW I agree 100% about the exhaust note.
