Hey all,

Been browsing the site for a while now, learning alot from both the great sponsers and members. Thanks :)

This is my new VZ ute, bought it about a month ago.

Colour: Black
Wheels: 20" Advanti racing black, 245 / 35 / 20 tyres
Suspension: SSL Lowered spring, standard shocks (for now)
Gearbox: T56 with ripshift short shifter
Engine Mods: FAST manifold, DART PRO1 Heads, Custom cam, MSD coil packs, Haltech 2 bar map sensor, extractors, full dual 2.5" exhaust, HD valve springs, 60lb injectors, dual 044 fuel pumps + surge tank under tray, braided fuel lines front to back + return, fuel pressure reg in bay
Diff: Standard +3.9 gears
Power: Currently 300rwkw (n/a) Marrano's dyno
Interior: Standard + boost and oil pressure guages on dash. fire extinguisher between seats. Standard sound system for now.
Exterior: Genuine holder hard cover, rubber ute liner etc

Thats all i can think of off the top of my head. The ute had a vortech v2 running on it previously, but previous owner installed a 3.15" pulley and overspun the charger causing the bearings to give way and chew the impeller to pieces. Currently waiting on a replacement v1 T Trim which should be delivered next week if all goes to plan. Then off to Marrano's to be installed and tuned.

Hoping for around 450rwkw on 12PSI, so we'll see how she goes.

I'll try to get some better photos this weekend once she is all nice and clean again.

Only one i have of the engine bay at the moment, will update in the next few days. That intake pipe isn't the best but was a temp solution until the t trim goes on late next week

Thanks mate, after owning a original black vn 355 making 200rwkw through a manual, stepping up to this been my first ls1 is unreal. The power now is great, stupid in the wet and fairly tame in the dry which i think is due to the IRS. Seems to just squat down and grip and go (well not in 1st, that just frys the tyres)

The ute looks tough mate. Plenty of power too! must be a bit of fun off the lights in first, though can't imagine tires will like it much...

Thanks, yeah tires don't like it too much. They'll just have to put up with it because its about to get worse. T Trim was paid for today. Should have it installed late next week if all goes to plan.

Nice rig!

Just some heads up (may not be the case in your state), I to have 20" with the same spec tyres, the cops pulled me over and let me know that they where illegal. for a 20" rim on my Maloo I have to have a 30 profile. Anyway, they let me go without any fine and I still have the 35's on.........

Thanks mate, i think i'll just see how it goes with that one. If Mr Plod want to pull me over, the last thing i'm sure they'll be worrying about is the tires.

I think they'd be more interested in whats under the bonnet.

Thanks again for the heads up.

Hi Bourny, nice ute. I notice yours has the bug catcher in the lower grill opening. Was this standard? I had an SSZ ute (black) but it did not have it. Sold it to a mate who wants to fit one. My wife's car-SSZ sedan (black), has it fitted ex factory. If you fitted it, how hard was it? If not I'll ask elsewhere-dealer?, or maybe a forum reader can help me.
PS Headlands pub OK. Usually go there on my Fatboy
Regards, Doc

Thanks, i'm not sure if it was factory or not. I bought the ute second hand and it was already on there. I don't believe it would be very hard at all to fit.

Headlands is good, we normally go down about once a month with a group of cars and have lunch down there.

Just a few photos i took today of the ute after i gave her a wash. Got confirmation the T-Trim left CAPA last Thursday. Should have it tomorrow or tuesday and then off to Marrano's to get fitted.

Well its been about 6 weeks since i've driven the ute.

Sonny has been taking good care of her, a few slight issues which i wasn't expecting. Is now on the road to getting the blower on and tuned.

New larger intercooler has been installed.

I will post all the details once i have the car back and everything has been sorted.

Sonny if you do read this, i do thank you for all of your help this far and i know you'll get it sorted and back to me so i can finally enjoy it.

Updates will come in the next few days.

I went without mine for a week when I was getting work done and that was bad enough  Although thanks to work I'm away from it for up to 2 months at a time now :bawl: :lmao: I'm not usually a fan of those rims but for some reason they really set the ute off. Great choice :goodjob:

Haha well someone tried to tell me at the start that i would only be without it for a week. As i said above, thats now been 6 - 7 weeks. Its nothing to do with Sonny at Marrano's. Its just one of those things. I'll explain in details once its all sorted.

I hadn't really seen any cars with these same rims until after i bought it. I think they suit it very well.

Thanks for your comments

Thanks for the comment, short answer is no they aren't worth it. They will set you back around $800 - $900 for 8 and the standard coils have been used on cars over 800rwhp.

I bought the ute with them on, i like the look of them too. But not for the price.

Well i've received some photos from Sonny on Friday night. After a few issues it is now all together and plumbed in.

Sonny has told me it will be on the dyno first thing tomorrow morning and we will see how much power she makes.

If all goes well i might be able to pick her up tomorrow afternoon.

Well yesterday it made about 370rwkw / 8psi. Not sure of the exact number but its around 500rwhp.

Adding to our dramas we have worked out that the pulley on the T-Trim is too big. Capa told me it should make 10 - 12psi. Once the new pulley is on it i'm hoping to crack the 400rwkw

New pulley is on its way, not likely to get here until tomorrow.

Well i went and picked up the ute friday afternoon from Sonny. I waited aroudn for Sonny to finish of the car he had on the dyno for about 15 mins having a look around his shop.

Sonny then talked to me about the ute, what he had done in detail and what i need to do from here on in. To say i'm impressed is an understatement. Sonny has done an awesome job on my ute.

Sonny then took me for a quick lap around the block, half way he turns to me and says "look at that smile on your face already". The ute is amazing to drive, 1st 2nd 3rd gear just lights the tires with anything over half throttle. But as its spinning through the gears its taking off like a rocket ship. The sound that this thing makes at idle and under load is music to my ears. I've been smiling all weekend, saturday morning i was up early as i couldn't sleep. Took the ute around to the parents place to give her a wash.

Sunday i went for a drive down to Cronulla and Kurnell, she behaves in traffic and gets up and boogies on command.

Thanks to Sonny for all his patience and awesome work

I'll try to get some photos and maybe a video in the next couple of days.

Ute made 411rwkw / 551rwhp + 947nM. *(ill copy the dyno sheet when im home next)

Good work on the power figure mate. Sounds like a real weapon.

Thanks mate.

Got some more plans for the ute, but i'm going to wait a while until i can save some more money.

The cam is too big in it at the moment and is bleeding off boost, need to upgrade extractors to 1 7/8. Duel 3" exhaust. Larger injectors.

Surely, you must be happy..What made you go the V1?

Wow - What a massive gain.

Surely, you must be happy..What made you go the V1?

Very happy.

I didn't have the money to buy a brand new T-Trim from Capa. They had a reco t-trim in stock when my S-Trim was there for repair. The repair would have cost about $2600 (can't exactly remember) And it cost me $600 extra for the T-Trim, air assist etc.

The auto belt tensioner is a awesome bit of gear, i was going to upgrade to the gilmer setup but i can't afford the $2000 +. I've only been driving the car a couple of days but i can't notice any belt slipping at all.

Sonny said i shouldn't really have any belt dramas with this setup.

Its a 2005 VZ, checked all the tags etc when i bought it.

Its running a older radiator setup, where the VZ has the header tank at the side.

Bug has bitten hard, i blew a head gasket recently and found number 7 piston cracked and a piece broken off. So time for a new engine rather than a rebuild..

Cheers
