hi guys i am still new to the forum and havent even had a chance to get some photos uploaded before stuff decided to break...

i have 2 issues which i could use some input on:

(Car is a VY2 Senator)

1. Audio-
As of about 2 days ago my stereo (stock) no longer turns off when you open the door - instead it now turns off when you turn the car off (BEFORE opening the door) and goes to the "voice in" setting. Is this a common problem or any ideas what it could be?

2. Fuel (maybe?)
Probably 1 in every 3 start-ups a humming(almost buzzing) sound can be heard which last for approx 30 seconds. I thought it was coming from the dash but a friend on the forum noticed it with the drivers door open and thought it could be the fuel pump...?

Having said that i am also curious about my fuel consumption - on the road i get what i would expect to get from a V8 (about 17-18l p/100km), BUT every time i start the engine the fuel level drops and usage goes up. To the point that if i was so inclined i would empty the tank without driving anywhere if i just sat there turning it off and on. Is this normal?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Cheers.

the stereo, maybe you changed the settings on it somehow accidently. check in your audio/car manual to see how you can change them back. as with the fuel pump it will be heard and heard is what you want, lol. its coming from the back of the car where the tank is. as with the level going up and down, that could be a faulty sender which is in the tank also and part of the pump

As bush basha says, it sounds like you've changed your menu settings. Unfortunately I can't remember how to change them on a VY now, probably something like start the car with fingers on both the up and down arrow keys on the trip computer (may not apply to a HSV). Voice in relates to either bluetooth or Holden assist.

I'm far from an expert but if it was fuel pump acting normally I wouldn't expect it to make the noise sometimes and not others????

Are you talking instantaneous fuel usage or not? The most important factor in fuel economy, apart from whether you floor it all the time or not, is average speed. For 17 - 18 litres/100km I'd expect your ave speed to be down around low 30s. If so, sounds about right. On a trip at 100kmh you should get under 10 litres/100km.

Hey mate, i have the same car, and i would gaurentee the buzzing sound you are hearing is the Rear Shock Air compressor!

its a noisey prick of a thing.

1. Audio - Maybe you've changed the settings in the user control panel as there is the option to change your stereo "turn off" points on the car. You can also change delays for auto headlight times etc.

2. Fuel - The avg fuel reading will almost instantly go up with any cold start idling due to the super rich fuel map. Maybe get yourself a mafless tune and 18l/100 kms will be a thing of the past and 12 to 13 will be the most you'll see. Try a PCM reset as well (disconnect the battery for 10 mins)
