hello,
its not my car but i got an sms from a friend. "there is a noise that sounds like a remote control aeroplane"
she has a VY exe wagon v6...she said from when she turns the car on until she stops...the air con is off.

obviously she is going to a mechinic on the weekend but any ideas of what it could be?
i was thinking a pump, wether fuel pump i dont know... than i though power steering but the noise is always there not just when she turns.

any help would be great

cheers

i'd go with power steering fluid being low

power steering fluid being low is only when you turn it'll make a groaning noise, and that dont sound like a remote control aeroplane, lol. you'll noise that noise, im thinking maybe she has an earth in one of her speakers and the whine is coming thru the car stereo (maybe)

If its coming from the rear of the car, check for the air-ride compressor (if it has it) for the shocks. I have a WL, and mine is as noisy as buggery, sounds a bit like a remote control airplane I suppose. You can also hear it before you turn the ignition to start.

no exec in any model had self levelling - if thats what you're referring to, so i doubt it would be that.

Does it change in loundess / pitch with the revs of the engine?

Water pump?

you guys

didn't say where the noise is inside or outside etc

my first thought would be a leaf caught in the fan !!!! that always sounds like a remote control aeroplane

to check just turn the air cond and fan off.

Geewizz ... how easy this is one to solve ! Almost like trying to guess what's on tv without it even being on ! More info needed please such as what side of the car it's coming from and which end. Based upon the limited info it could be a relay having an attack or the ABS modulator constantly priming due to a fault or leak in the system. Either way it sounds like something that should be looked at sooner rather than later.
