Hey Everyone,
I just purchased a 2002 Holden Astra Convertible (Bertone) and the roof is not working, I took it to Holden and they fixed some pipe problem and I paid $1400 :( and then they told me the roof goes up and down properly but the roof lock latches are both broken (Right & Left), does anyone have any idea where I can get this done? How much it would cost? Holden are asking for way TOO much.
I appreciate your help.
Thanks Guys

roof latches broken...????
how does that happen?
my missus has a 2005 version
and these locks are powered operated
As you just bought it, it should be under warranty from the car dealer
.....take it back. If you bought privately then start saving :bawl:

I dont know how it happened but they are little plastic bits that are attached to the metal and the sensors and the plastic bits are broken and they arnt holding on properly :( I bought it from a private seller and I am sooo upset now. I just came out of an accident, my old car was written off (I never had any problems with it) but i didnt want to get another lexus cause it would have reminded me of the accident, so i got this car and I got headaches with it :( I know other places can fix it at a cheaper rate but I just dont know where to go. I really hope someone can help me...
Looks like noone can help :(

Depending how much is your excess is on your insurance, if it is say $500, make an insurance claim.
By doing this, the insurance company will then fix it and make sure it will work.
As far as Holden are, they are a rip off when it comes to their convertibles.
In fact, they will not try to fix most problems when under warranty.

Can you claim fair wear and tear type items on your insurance?

My girlfriends 2007 Twin Top had just been done and she got it back on Wednesday. The roof failed, bent the boot, left hand panel dinted and done by AAMI.
The car was still under warranty, but Holden refused to pay for it.

You do realise where these cars are made, and where Holden have to source the parts from, don't you???
All you can eat for under $20 is the go, is it, no matter what the part is or where it comes from?
Go price the part from an Opel dealer, then convert it to Aus dollars, add taxes, freight, wages and storage costs. Might get an idea then...

Yes that's true. But I cannont understand the price difference between Holden dealers.
Some are reasonable, but some are putting $60-80 on the same part.
But when the car is under warranty and Holden do not want to fix it, then they are a rip off.

Hey I tried calling my insurance company and they do not cover that as its considered wear & tear. Oh well thats insurance companies for you. Its funny how each holden dealer charges diff prices for these parts, it ranges from $1200 each - $1500 = $300 difference per lock latch, how can they justify the price difference? I got my car back from them and I also noticed they scratched the bumper bar and tried covering it up, luckily I got pictures of the car before I took it in and will be calling them today to see what could be done.
I am looking around at GM holden suppliers as they can get the parts at a fraction of the price, so I'll see what ends up happening will keep u guys posted... Fingers crossed I get it fixed before summer.

With the AU Dollar strong ATM, it may be worthwhile to see if you can get them out of the US or UK.....

This question is actually very easy to answer.
The trade practices act forbids the setting of fixed prices for just about everything we are able to purchase. The main reason for this is to allow market forces to dictate where prices should sit. Generally speaking, this means competition between competitors, leading to lower prices.
Usually, the more dealers (or resellers) in one particular area, the lower price one or two of them will be.
If you think this is unique to your favourite brand of car, time for a wake up call! This happens ALL THE TIME between different Coles and Woolworths/Safeway supermarkets!
FWIW - this happened to a car I was driving - the latches didnt engage correctly, and on the freeway the roof blew partially open - not a fun experience!
Luckily the car was still under warranty at the time - as the costs outlined here are pretty insane!!!
