Just wondering what options there are out there for the VE SV6's.. could everyone please post what they have seen around the traps in terms of rear mufflers.
Price, brand, and where from would be great :D
Also, please mention what sort of drone is to be expected, and roughly how loud they are.
Cheers

Hi
I'm not sure what is out now but back when I changed the mufflers in 2007 I put the lukey v8 rear mufflers, didn't sounds to bad, was loud but the drone was very bad.
I changed the hotdogs to larger and longer one's it help a fair bit but was still annoying.
My last resort was gts rear mufflers, made it quieter, no drone but had a different sound to stock.
In short dont touch the lukey's IMO.

Standard V8 mufflers might be worth a try. You will pick them up for next to nothing.
Eddie,
Were the GTS rear mufflers a simple fit up ie tip lengths?????

Picked up a complete V8 system off ebay last week for little over $50, but only fitted the rear quad tip mufflers (rest of the system is the same as V6) and got a slightly deeper sound but with no drone.....suits me, and fills out the tip cutouts nicely!
That reminds me, if anyone is interested in the system and my old SV6 tips, pm me.....suits ute.:)

Yep just get a set of the ve v8 mufflers and bolt em' straight up yourself too easy. You'll get a little bit deeper note on idle especially :)

as others have said they just bolt on, they sounded nice as well. I'm sure thre are several exhausts shops with a few lying around

right, so the consensus is get hsv mufflers if possible? if not, ve v8 standard items..
I have seen a fair few hsvs now, and they seem to be very quiet for my liking, just a touch louder would be ideal.. anymore opinions?
also, any sound clips that people could post would be much appreciated :)

The only other option I didn't mention was to go with some x-force mufflers but they may be a touch too loud and they will cost you a bit more of course!

Full Clubsport system on my Lumina. Sound ok without much drone. Tip length is ok however we had to mod the lower rear fascia to suit. There is a thread on here somewhere in case anyone is interested.
We did the obligatory test without rear boxes and it sounded pretty good. Maybe go for something custom with straight through rears. I used to have a Walker Race Magnum bullet-style muffler as the rear on my VN (centre was also fairly straight through) and it would be worth a try. Don't know if it would drone but it would certainly be louder than legal.

is it a worth while difference in regards to sound? sv6 exhaust is different to lumina exhaust stock, so the difference may not be much..
whats the price of xforce rear mufflers?

The stock Lumina/Omega system joins just after the cats and is a single from there back. The HSV system is a full twin that appears identical to SV6/SS up until the rear boxes. I'm told that the internal baffling is different to the Holden models. I would describe the sound as a muffled bark and others have said it still sounds like a stocker being flogged when I'm up it. It sounds pretty good from inside the car though. How far is planet davo from Canberra? You could come and have a look or try the HSV boxes on your SV6. Only takes a few mintues to change the rears over.

awesome offer there matey, but planet davo is actually about 12 hours drive from canbrrra.. thanks anyway :)
i guess what im after is something with a little more noise than stock hsv mufflers, but less noise than rear xforce/lukey mufflers (to avoid having a droney 6).

Hey mate i also have a sv6 and looking for the same thing you are. Dont go the x force as they are more drone then note, although they are bringing out a 2.25 system especially for the sv6. I have been trying to contact someone at perry as they make a exhaust for the v6 aswell and they are known as drone free specialists but haven't been about to get a response. Seems like the ss or hsv mufflers might be the go though.

yeah i heard about the 2.25 xforces.. hope they do make them. Does anyone know the difference between hsv mufflers and ss mufflers? Imo there would be decent gains from straight through rear mufflers on these cars, the stock ones feel as if they literally dont flow enough.

Right, having been around to a few local exhaust shops im figuring out that the hsv and ss mufflers are very very similar, ie. restrictive. That, and the fact that I was qouted over $500 for HSV mufflers with stock SV6 tips means I will not be going that option.
SS Mufflers I can get cheaper, but they wont change it much at all, apart from looks that is.
So now its upto the 2.25 xforce? how long do these mufflers last? keeping in mind that this car will only ever do short, gentle trips (yes its the woman's car)
cheers

Redback mufflers would be the way to go, minimal drone, and sound great IMO. see YouTube - VE SV6 now with redback rear mufflers. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCfLREHv6kw)
They are what I have on mine too. Cost $490, but well worth it, and drone is still pretty good.

your car does sound good, but thats not just rear muffler change over. any idea what it sounds like with just redback mufflers on an otherwise stock system? Are they stainless? that price includes tips?

Sorry, but I thought that HSV and SS mufflers were the same apart from the tips? $500 is an absolute rip off when they probably have plenty of sets just sitting around from people who've upgraded!

Agree Wonky, I put GTS rear mufflers on my old SV6 and was charged all up even to fit $100. Call around some forum sponsors or exhaust places they probably have them sitting around.
IMO any straight through muffler on the sv6 is going to drone. I went two years with drone on my old one and changed hotdogs etc but it still sounded average and had the drone even if slightly reduced.
Maybe the 2.25 xforce might be the answer which was not around when i was looking for them.

Sorry, that one isn't my car, but the sound is very similar on mine, all I have done is the redbacks, and had the midsection (the part with the kink in it below front seats) replaced with straight through pipe. That price was mild steel with stainless tips.

yeah thats right wonks, and the sv6 hasnt cracked 10k yet.. so id most likely be getting more used/worn mufflers than what its currently got.
Eddie, what did your SV6 sound like with just the GTS mufflers changed? did it idle any louder?
Bigfut, who sells the redback mufflers? do they have a website? stainless tips are the killer in the price i reckon, do they make the actual mufflers stainless? i would be happy enough to re-use the original SV6 tips.
Cheers fellas

It sounded a lot better than with the lukey straight throughs.
It was deeper and had more of a throb, now not v8 like but if i was next to a normal sv6 it sounded deeper and when revving it out it sounded quite nice, still had a note but not silly.
please dont think its a huge sound diff, its slight but still nice

I like what your explaining, and i like the fact that the hsv's are stainless. Something with a decent whirring idle (weird 6cyl noise) would be cool though, so im leaning towards the redbacks at this stage.
