I testdrove a Cross8 on the weekend and noticed that on the firewall there were something "missing". When I got home I checked the firewall of my '03 SV8 and saw the cruise-control unit. As I did actually test cruise on the Cross8 I'm wondering if there were drive-by-wire? It still had the god-aweful full cover over the engine so I didn't notice either way ..

That specific car had a couple of issues which weren't Cross8 specific (auto slipping, starter faulty, etc) but I actually really liked it. It's big but I'm an old Dodge Phoenix owner so I'm used to careful parking, 10-point turns and the like. My wife drove it too (will be used for horsefloat) and she really liked it too. I was expecting lots of drivetrain noise and rattling, but it was fine. That specific vehicle actually sold (cheapish price) but we'll keep looking. I'm pretty convinced I'll get one now.

Yes, VZ got the drive by wire engine. Not sure if it happened when the rest of the Holden range went to VZ as Cross8 stayed as VYII for 6 months or so. I looked at a few of them before I bought mine, and plenty were dogs with half arsed attempts at a decent exhaust (resulting in booming, lack of torque etc), aftermarket wheels, cigarette burns on seats etc. I tried really hard to find an early 2006 model with 6.0L but couldn't find a white one with leather trim anywhere, until 6 months after I found mine (mine is a May 2005).

I am very happy with mine, but it was gutless compared to my stock V2 CV8 auto. A single 3.5" high flow system from manifolds back (Sureflo) and a tune by Oztrack gave it heaps more go. i posted up before and after dyno sheets here a while back.

I also found that the front strut inserts had collapsed on it (you wouldn't even know!) so watch for that too. i bought a 3 year extended warranty as well, as it was only 2 years old when i got it, however all of these should now be over 3 years old so unless it's already done on whatever you buy that opportunity is now gone.

Mine is a 5.7, being a 5/05. 6.0L wasn't available until 2006.

Its a shame my wife wants to put her own personalised plates on the Cross8 when we get it .. it would look good with the "BARGE" ones from my old Phoenix .. :)

There's a grey 2006 Cross8 on Carpoint at the moment. I think it was about 70,000kM on it. Low $30k's.
