ok. so ive called the dealer about this commodore, says it may be possible to get down to $30k.
now... is this too much, and should i just bide my time and wait for one thats a little cheaper?? or maybe work the dealer a tad more and get it down into the 28s.
thing is, this car IS immaculate. (besides the chev badges) And ive seen this car before around my area, and ive seen this guys new VZ senator. And both cars where treated like the car is a baby.
but really. if i could comtemplate paying this much, i could pay a few grand more and go VE or HSV Zseries.
annnnd also, there is this red one with half the KMs for the same price..
http://carpoint.com.au/used-car/HOLDEN/COMMODORE/New%20South%20Wales/csn7178141.aspx
or this black one (private, so probs more neg if i go and wave $28 under his nose)
http://carpoint.com.au/used-car/HOLDEN/COMMODORE/New%20South%20Wales/csn7557538.aspx
recently, a black MY06 VZ SS with 75kms was for sale for $27k, (basically same as above.. private, black, black leather etc etc, had DVD screens.. WOW!! )
So im not sure as to what to do. $30k is my ABSOLUTE LIMIT. and that basically means i have nothing left over to do any fun mods.. ie zorst lowered stezza.
**just would like some opinons of people.
*edit.
ie if i was going $30-32k.. might as well go abit further
http://carpoint.com.au/used-car/HSV/CLUBSPORT/New%20South%20Wales/csn7449155.aspx?postcode=2500&distance=250
sure its 2 years older. but HSV =)
and more.. less KMs and MY06..

http://carpoint.com.au/used-car/HSV/CLUBSPORT/New%20South%20Wales/csn7239732.aspx?postcode=2500&distance=250
or my mates senator, which i know i could get a few $k off
http://carpoint.com.au/used-car/HSV/SENATOR/New%20South%20Wales/csn7529365.aspx?postcode=2500&distance=250
and the R8
http://carpoint.com.au/used-car/HSV/CLUBSPORT/New%20South%20Wales/csn7462038.aspx?postcode=2500&distance=250
....and then take into consideration Insurance..
thats why i was ideally looking at an MY06 Calais, $600 cheaper on insurance compared to the SS.. HSV probs $600 more. =(
WHAT TO DOOOOOO!?!?!?!?!??!!? arrgh

does it have to be a manual? theres a couple of good looking white ones below that one for mid 20's?? but auto.. to be honest i would go spending more then 25k on a vz ss..

The average price should be around the $25000 for private sale and $20000 for a trade in.
Mind you it does look in good nick. Not too bad on the Km's either.
If you really like it, start at $24000 and go from there. See what they say.
Just my two cents worth.

Yeah maybe on a 5.7 VZ SS, but I can tell you, the 6L VZ SSs are a fairly rare thing. Have a look on Carsales, theres hardly any. And none for sale privately. Plenty of the 5 point 7 thou...
I reckon for 28-30k its a good buy. Very neat, lowish kays too. :) I like that red one too, it looks good.

I would keep looking around but all of those z series Clubbies are a reasonable buy with low k's which is a bonus. I would go the Clubbies and pay the little bit extra forget about the VZ SS it is to overpriced:)

Heaps of 04-05 SS's around for 20-25.
but the 06 with the L76 is rare as. 6.0L has me.
if its a SS has to be manual.
calais has to have that tan/cream leather.
some things you just have your mind made up.
*personally i like the red one better, but im waiting for the dealer to get back to me.
and the HSV would be nice (OMG R8 drool) and priced right, but the insurance cost would hold me back.

30k for a VZ SS is to much imo. If choosing id take the Red one, less kays and not as common as silver. Better off saving a bit extra and jumping into the senator or the R8.

Take a trip to the auctions.
12 months ago i went to the Pickles one in Belmore and back then watched a VE SS sell for $31,000. It had 23,000 k's on it.
My guess is that you could buy a VE SSV, Caprice or Stato for around the 30 thousand mark at these places. Especially now with the credit crunch. There are alot of really nice cars being repo'd and the finance companys are taking whatever they can get for them. Even the car dealerships that flood to these auctios are staying away from V8's, as they are harder to sell in this climate.
I would suggest you go up for the day and just watch what some of these cars are selling for.
I bet you go back the next week with your $$$ and steal yourself a bargain.

I had a mate who sold his manual VZ MY06 SS for 24k around 6-7 months ago. I think it was still in the 40's on the odometer. Immaculate car. If I hadn't have already spent a fair bit modding mine I would have sold it and bought his, using the change for future mods. The silly bugger should have advertised it on here.. It ended up going to some SA P-plater who had only just got his licence.. :bawl:

imo 30k is too much for a VZ ...holden were selling VE SS utes for $33k driveaway last year... Brand New . I do like that red / black leather combo example, though dont believe the dealer when he tells you its stock ,never modified and only driven to church on Sundays ! Hmm :jester:

I'd be more inclined to either;
A) Up your budget and get a VE SS.
I've seen a fair few for 30k exact. Lowish kms, manual, etc.
B) Get an 04-05 SS.
I paid 21k for my immaculate VYSS. <50,000kms, leather, climate, etc, etc. Spend the extra coin you save on a full exhaust, cam+clutch, OTR, tune, etc.
What would you rather - A stock 6litre SS, or a nicely modded 5.7...
Just my thoughts

I just picked up a my10 VE SS manual ute for 36k drive away (for my project), however i would be happy to flog my clubby of to ya for around 32k.
PS mods this is not a sale pitch, just merely showing what can be had

Tell 'em to put the damn Holden badges back on..
I'd go the Clubby personally though...

idk im reeeaaaallly keen on the L76. with what ive been told, will pack alot more punch when a few bolt ons and tune are done compared to an LS1.
also, an MY06 being abit more limited would hold its resale a tad more, compared to an 04-05 SS???
and VE.. not to keen on em. the shape etc.
not only have seen/heard about auctions, but even on say carsales, VE SSs go for pretty cheap.. basically just as cheap as VZs.
that red one.. well yeh, i emailed the dealer and asked about previous mods..
the silver one, new pics just came up with the red leather. drivers side not in greatest condition. not as new as the dealer said the whole car was.
hmmmm. Ive just got my heart set on an MY06 VZ SS/Calais.
Just not going to pay over 30k for one, so will wait my time.
...if going over 30k, it will be for that senator or clubby with the LS2 =)

Imo, If you like that car go get it, screw the dealer down to a better price. I have a VZ SS HBD which I bought three years ago for 37k . Great car with heaps of extras llike sun roof and sat nav, but looking at it's value now I know I paid a bit to much but thats only a problem if I was going to sell it. You know once you get it home and start to enjoy it you will soon forget how much you paid anyway.
I like to go to this site to keep an eye on prices

hmm. ATM im just looking and waiting.
but ive decided that im not spending anymore than $28k on a VZ MY06 COMMODORE SS.
COMMODORE, ... if im going to spend $30 something, might as well go for a clubby.
infact, my mate just sold his VZ Senator for $34k, if the deal falls through i will be going for a look =)

Watch it dissappear off onto a wholesale yard now, I did the same thing about 2 years ago, questioned a cars obvious previous mods, car vanished and told not available for sale anymore, I found it in a whole sale yard...

My money would be on a Z series HSV

Lincoln87 -
My mate just bought a black 2005 VZ SS auto with 70,000ks, black leather, bog stock, not a mark on it for 18,500... I know it's only a 5.7, but the difference in price (about 12 grand?) compared to a 6L SS, with the right mods would give the 6L an absolute flogging. I know I'd rather have 10 grand to spend on mods than nothing.
How long have you been looking for an SS? Is it going to be a daily driver or weekender?

well just rang nrma this arvo for a few quick quotes.
with my age, few claims, and a few hits on the licence its pretty high. dunno what the excess is.
even tho i could get these cheaper, the difference between a calais and a ss, let along a clubby.. gives me an idea at what im looking at.
06 v8 calais for 30k $3200
06 v8 SS for 30k $4100
04 clubby for 35k $5800
06 clubby R8 for 35k $6300
06 senator for 35k $6000
makes a VZ 04 calais look very good. being 5-10k cheaper than a my06 ss or calais, and insurance is 1k cheaper (going 06 calais - 06 ss, im sure 06 calais - 04 calais there would also be a price drop)
hmmmmmmmm. could go LS1 calais now, few mods.. then Senator/clubbyR8 later.
damn my age and damn insurance.
*i think toast has got the right idea, have that bit extra to spend on the LS1 =)
**all i know is that if i go over 30k, its going to be a clubby.

i'm in this sort of market at the moment for about that price. i'm keen for a vz ss 6L but the more I look at the premium, the more i look at getting a vy and throw a cammed ls3 in it. i reckon this can be done for $30k.

I have never understood the wanting to get good mileage thing, if you drive a car with a big engine it will drink big fuel!
Personally i think my ute is quite good on fuel ( not that i take a lot of notice how much it drinks ) when compared to my old car back in the UK which was a RS Cosworth with a 2ltr turbo engine which would drop down to about 8 or 9 to the gallon, dont know how to convert it to litres per 100km

Holy crap, the Cosworth was thirsty then.
Here's a tip, google has a really handy conversion function which I use all the time - punch your desired conversion straight into google and it will give you the result.
I wasn't sure if it would do this one but it did! Just punch in: 9mpg to L/100km
The answer is:
9 miles per gallon = 26.1349537 L/100km
So err... it did go through a bit of juice :) Way more than what the average bolt on LS1 would.

Hey mate,
All of the rides you have mentioned are nice, but there is no way 30K for a VZ SS is justifiable i reckon. Earlier (ie 04-05) is much better value, but this is where my money would be going:
http://www.carpoint.com.au/used-car/HOLDEN/CAPRICE/Victoria/csn7373609.aspx
MY06 Caprice
6L L76
Black
Leather, DVD Screens
Sigs
OTR
90Kms etc etc.
advertised 34K but it has been on there a little while. 30K could see yourself into a kick arse barge that would be no slouch. Gets you a heap nicer dash, climate control and stacks of room.
Perhaps i am a little biased (I have WK) but i reckon this is nice as!
Either way, best of luck with your decision,
Cheers,
Steve

ive come to the fact that 30k is waaay too much for an SS.
30-35k will see me in VE SS amd HSV clubby territory.
...or a caprice.
have been looking at the barges.. some reason i prefer the look of the calais/ss.
i think a calais will win me over. Just that lil bit more cheaper. Both purchase price and insurance.
..however manual would be nice too.
thanks again guys
*the senator sold.. well deposit taken atleast. and defs not going HSV..atleast for a few more years (i assume less preimum and more income i would be able to afford it..)
