Don't know if you've seen the LS3/LS7 clutch thread in Powertrain Technical (Australian LS1 and Holden Forums (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=117956)) but there seems to be mass confusion over what is and isn't an LS7 clutch! I think I'm getting a handle on it now as I'm trying to investigate for worknssv who needs a better clutch than stock but doesn't really want to go Mal Wood etc..

Holden dealers have plenty of 24248985 which is the W427 clutch/pressure plate kit. Not that expensive either at $660 inc. GST. However, they treat it as a special order item which means no return if it isn't suitable. :( It apparently only works with a specific flywheel (part #12571611) which is over $1100 here according to that thread!!

From what I've read I gather it's a 7 bolt flywheel and hence that clutch can't just be bolted up behind an L98 or LS3. L98/LS3 seem to now use part 92161753 (clutch/pressure plate) which is supposedly stronger than the original VE V8 clutches (list $538 + GST).

Fraser at Speedinc can send an LS7 clutch over but the part number he has for it is different again!

Somewhere along the line I read that the LS7 clutch had a 7 bolt flywheel and (shows my lack of knowledge of clutches given I've only been allowed to drive autos for almost 15 years) seem to have perpetuated the same error above.

I figure now that the 7th hole is actually the locating dowel???

See http://kb.ls1gto.com/KB/article.aspx?id=10039 for more info on why it seems the LS7 clutch requires the particular flywheel 12571611. List price over here in Australia for the flywheel alone is a ridiculous $945 + GST!

To the the OP - we ordered an LS7 clutch and flywheel 12571611 from Fraser at Speedinc (sponsor) yesterday for a total cost including shipping of less than just the flywheel cost here! :woohoo: It was sent yesterday and should arrive at Chev's either tomorrow or early next week.

According to some American info I saw yesterday the LS7 clutch is good for 500rwhp i.e. 375rwkw.

Contact WP/PowerTorque engines in either Brendale or Ormeau on the coast.
They will be able to supply you an LS7 clutch asm. in QLD.

Im hearing you Wonky. Bit of a mind battle isnt it? I have been in contact with Fraser before, but like you know, time the clutch is shipped to OZ you can double the price. Still not writing him off. Just seeing if, on the odd chance, someone has one left here.

Have come close to getting one from a few from different places here, but just as Ive gone to get them, someone has sold them etc. Gotta be quick ! WP01, I had rung uncle marky abustarky a few weeks back, but they didnt have any, only the npc jobbies. Thanks anyway. From what I can see, and have been told, the xtreme clutch is in fact an ls7 item, made for them.

Wonky, let me know when your clutch arrives, and how long it took if you could please ! When I do mine, ill have to take the car outta action for a while, as im rebuilding the box too. PM price too !!

With current exchange rates you should be able to get an LS7 clutch/flywheel from speedinc for under AU$900. I got one last year and it only took about a week to arrive.

Was sent Wed (our time) and Fraser said could even be here today (will check with Chev later as was being sent straight there). If not should be Monday. Fraser was excellent to deal with (first time for me). PM sent.

Not sure what it will convert to given credit card rates are usually a percent or two lower than the official rate and the transaction hasn't come through yet, but expect somewhere between that and about $950.

LS7 clutch and flywheel. The clutch is actually a new part number that in the USA is what 24248985 has been superseded to and the flywheel is the one that over here costs over $1,000!!
