View Full Version : VE Noise Under Bonnet When Off

I drove my car (VE SV6 Ute) from my house to work which is like 5 mins and I was washing my car (they have good undercover wash area) the other day and after about five mintues into it there was like a faint whinning/ticking noise coming under the bonnet near the radiator fans. After about 10 seconds it went away but after a few mintues it started up again for another 10 seconds. I looked under bonnet and couldn't see anything (thought I am mechanically retarted so that wouldn't help). It did this about 4 or 5 times and then stopped (we'll I had finished washing not sure if it continued after that).
Is this normal? The engine was off and car locked. I thought it was normal for cars to make some noise after it stopped but this was a weird noise. It sounded like a whining, ticking over kind of noise.

I think a search will uncover your answer, but from memory the noise discussed there is closer to the firewall...

Thanks. I did a search but a lot of noises etc and Im sure Ive just added to the rest of them but most of those were with engines running, accelerating etc. I'll try another search.

Sorry, I can't answer your question but I have my own. Why do you lock your car when you wash it? Are you that paranoid that someone may jump in it and take off when you turn around? :jester:

Sounds like you're just a tad too paranoid about the whine of the electrics, they turn off after the car has been off for a little while. Then when you unlocked it to open the bonnet, they started up again.
That would be my diagnosis anyway.

Cheers guys:goodjob: you are good at picking up the little details ha.
I opened my bonnet when I got out cause I was checking the water etc in wipers and I had locked it because I went into the office and came back out so i dont think it was from me opening the car back up, cause i didn't, it was just doing it after (but like post said may just be electrics).
And for those that picked it up, no i didn't lock the car but leave my bonnet wide open and go into office so people could rummage under the bonnet, I closed bonnet (not fully) so appeared closed.:jester:
Cheers for the help though guys just wanted to make check if anyone knew anything.

I have the same noise in my SV6 Ute.
I think it may be the fuel or water pump, not to sure. It just takes longer to turn off.

YES!
Same issue.
When I washed it, I was kneeling over washing the wheels, and I could hear like a high pitched whining sound coming from within the motor .....
Really faint, but you could clearly hear it when up close ....
Hmmmmm

do a search mate theres a recall on this, its the 5th harmonic of the multifibulating vibrator capacitor, simple swap at your holden dealer.

hey guys i had this happening my SV6 VE. so i took it to holden. apparently its normal. when its turned off the fuel pump is pushing the excess fuel back down the lines.. break lines doing the same etc..
im not good with cars and thought it was a major problem, but nah.. completely normal for cars nowdays to hear that Humming, when car is starting, or turned off.
