Just learned that one of the true legends of motorsport has passed away.
Frank Gardner, who had a sensational motorsport career, both in Australia & overseas, has passed away after a long illness.
A really funny man, & a brilliant driver, team owner etc he will be very very sadly missed.

Ah, that brainy man who was always seen with his favourite headgear on - that "carefully crafted" wash hat!!

I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times (did a few of his driver training courses). He was a real gentleman and nice bloke. Frank also wrote a couple of books on driving & setting up cars - he had a profound knowledge & an ability to get the most out of his cars & drivers.
Sad news to hear that he has gone :bawl:

Very sad news
I first met Frank when i was 15 and have vived memories of that day ...his awsome ability to entertain on the track was well known but his joke and yarn telling was fantastic!..he was the best i have ever met.!
I later had the oportunity to work for Frank as an engine builder and as a driver, He was a true legend..half an hour with Frank was worth a week or two at the track testing...the best driving instructor in the game..
A sad day for me today..but a huge loss for motor racing.

One of our greatest achievers in Australian motor racing who made a legendary name for himself, both here and overseas. A brilliant driver and engineer, an ascerbic dry wit, and yet an amazing raconteur - he will be sadly missed.
