I remember seeing the car about 10-12yrs ago at a car show, had the widest tyres I had ever seen,345's! The cooler piping had signatures like Victor Bray & Frank who drives the Bandag bullet.
Apparently the car has had a few outings to hill climbs & bitumen sprints,it comes with 2sets of rims & rubber. I'm told the asking price is 55k.

Is this the same guy that made an open challenge to race & then didn't show up?
IIRC there were a couple of V8 Cortinas & the Hume Performance Holden which took him up.

Yeah it's the same car,but that was the previous owner/builder of the car who set that challenge,I wouldn't mind hearing some performance specs from when it was first built, apparently Kerry Packer was the cars very first owner.
When Gary Walker had it for sale there was apparent rumours of a 200k price tag.

Is this the famous twin turbo build with no intercoolers?

Guys,
I was a (and am) a jag lover - well the old ones anyway. Owned a V12 E-type convertible for awhile and dealt with Gary's workshop a few times - excellent!! What an amazing place!! Anyway........

There were 2 or 3 different turbo XJS's built by Gary Walker I think.

The first was a 1979 5.3 litre black one originally owned by Kerry Packer. My memory was that the project was originally started with a different builder, was burnt out and then it eventually ended up with Gary for complete ground-up rebuild. I am a bit rusty on this one. I think the car was burnt out with a number of other cars. I have a copy of a Modern Motor, August 1985 test of this one and also another article but not sure which magazine it was (I cut the article out).

The second (I think) was also black and I think was 7.0 litres. This one was absolutely amazing and ground breaking development. I had a ride in it.......... Wow!! It was far more memorable than driving a Ferrari back then. Mechanically almost everything on the car was modified. Thought I still had an article and some advertising brochures on this one too, but can't find them. I will keep looking.

He also built another one (a Silver one) that also looked great. It didn't have quite such a high spec engine, but was still amazing. It was often at club events too.

You can probably tell I could go on about this........

1111111, PM me if I can be of more help.

Cheers
CalaisBoy

I remember that article.

Black XJS. V12 and twin turbos. He challenged anyone to a 1/4 mile race, then a circuit, then putting through peak hour traffic. From memory it was good for 10 second 1/4 mile. I remember Doug Mulray raving about it as well as he is a massive Jag fan.

I also remember the black one, started as a burnt out insurance write-off. The fire was in the interior and quite intense! no paint left on the outer panels and turret.

Yeah met him a few times. My memory is that the cars had different turbos and maybe injection systems - don't know the details. Also I think those power figures were off an engine dyno not rear wheel?? Happy to be corrected. Good luck with your search!
