Hi everyone with the upcomming release next week of the information relating to the My10 SS/SSV and SSV G8,s, I thought it would be appropriate to get this thread started.
Information is slowly comming out so please post up any pics and or information before their official release.
I can tell you that the magic number for the G8,s is 1550...this is the total number of cars that will be built across all three variants.
The A6 and the M6 will be available in the G8 and as per previous posts the only colours are Black, Red and Blue.
As we already know the SSV colours will remain as is, however Posion Ivy(Metallic green) and a Metallic gold colour will be added(similar to hackett gold i believe)
It would not suprise me if there was a couple of small extras added to the SSV.....anyone got anything?
There was also talk that the A6 would be lifted from 260kw up to 270kw to match that of the M6, I find this interesting as the A6 G8,s with AFM in the states were 270kw so I guess it would make sense.
Appreciate your thoughts and any info.

My dealer has assured me no changes from 9.5 to 10 other than the v6 engines.
I was also warned off poison ivy, apparently theres significant colour match issues with this particular colour.

Holden struggle with colour match on most of their colours, silver / white seem to be pretty bad too! Its because the plastics are painted at an external supplier, not with the car.. We all know paint codes are never 100% true!

I did see a pic, I think it was on these forums somewhere - the new green was clearly different on the front bar to the rest of the car. Anyone know why the bars are not painted with the same batch of paint at Holden HQ?

As I stated above they are painted at a 3rd party supplier offsite. They come to holden already painted...
This applies to front / rear bumper, spoilers, mirror scalps, door handles etc etc..

Ive just been talking with my dealer about the new ones, in the process of ordering a new car and there are no cosmetic changes at all, not even wheels which sucks...

Seeing one in the flesh then deciding may be difficult as over 750 G8's are already allocated. I think these things are going to go very quickly...in fact i dont even think they will hit the showroom floor :eyes:

Having a look at those pics, surely there will have to be some changes to the G8 front bar for the Commodore to accommodate the (mandatory) front rego plate as required in Australia, and how/where will the lion badge go I wonder?

Actually, I was told by a former paint & panel worker at Elizabeth that they were painted separately onsite by different staff & equipment to the metalwork... the colour varies because of the paint composition and drying methods...

Correct. The plastic parts are injection moulded and painted in Plant 5 and the bodies are painted in Plant 9 all onsite at Elizabeth.

Personally Im not a big fan of the G8..The standard front end and spoiler looks much sportier than the G8. The bumpers almost look out of place. If it was to work they need to do a bit more re-shaping of the car. IMO
The bonnet is definetly bad ass though! :eyes:

I'm a bit undecided about the looks of the G8. But I'm looking at getting a wagon soon (hopefully) and I'll be interested to see hoe Holden exicute this limited edition, what they do with badging or other extras or differences in trim etc.

Cant wait to see what is released tomorrow, if you read the latest wheels mag they claim that the GTO and R8 HSV,s will use the g8 bonnet.
I am suprised that wheels have not made menton of the limited edition G8.

I don't mind the Maloo but it looks like you could bolt the bumper straight on the G8.
Don't like the HSV LED lights ???? Just what I need more attention when I drive.
Still very happy with the G8 yoot as my choice as well.
Spoke to the dealer today and he still can't give me a delivery date although I do have a number in the system he tells me.

How pray tell do the plan to put the number plates on??
Plus we all know it's not a special edition, it's clearing stock because Pontiac went bust.

To be fair this is a lot better than the usual "sticker special" we see from Holden and Ford, and for the Average Joe they probably wouldn't even realise the bumper has been borrowed straight from the G8. Good to see they went with the bonnet as well. I also noticed they didn't even bother with a Holden badge at the front.
I can see these being very popular on the used car market in a few years.

Is this the first Holden ever to not have a Holden badge on the front?
(Or at least the first Commodore).

Most numberplates spoil the look of a car sadly

Love the no badges look on the front.
As for the numberplate... I'd sooner be looking at a way to mount to through the lower grill piece. I don't think i could bring myself to screw into that nice clean painted front bumper.

I dont even think they had thought about a number plate for the front when it was designed for the G8 since you dont have to run a front plate in a lot of places in the states..

Looks good but i think Holden should of kepted the original front bar & only put the G8 bonnet on. I'm liking the machine faced wheels:goodjob:

No use putting a holden badge on the car, most get replaced by chev badges these days...
Was hoping that they would have moved the screen up higher, simular to what ford did with the change from BA/BF to FG. Maybe next time..

Alot of car makers use a backing plate which is moulded to the same contour as the bar on one side and then completly flat on the face side for the number plate. I dare say this is what they will probably do....i saw something similar on an Accord and it looked ok, if number plates can look ok.
I am suprised that their is no mention of G8 and that there is also no mention of the 500 build number for each variant.
I do like the fact that the front is clean of badges, and i think once lowered the car will take on a really aggressive look. I cant wait untill we start seeing pics of them on these forums.... I personally think its a great look and im sure they will be sought after.
People claiming these cars to parts bin cars are jumping the gun a little early....it is very possible that these may continue to be exported under the Chev brand for various operational rolls. They are under serious consideration for LAPD as their squad cars and are also being considered by several other American police departments - in addition the Canadian Highway patrol are also looking at the G8 with serious intentions.
It will be interesting to see what unfolds in the near future.
