View Full Version : Bolle Tint for the SSV wagon?

The Mrs booked in the wagon to get some Bolle window tint from Tint-a-car early next week. Is it any good or what? It's pretty expensive at $570 but they said you get two pairs of Bolle glasses (his and hers from a big selection) for free with it. The midnight express stuff is $450. Also called TKO tinting and they said use Supreme 22 which is illegal but they can also do what ever you want in accordance with the legalities and should be around $3XX. The cost is much better and I've heard lots of good things about TKO but I'm interested in other peoples opinions on all tinting options.

I have Midnight Express on both our cars now Lewis, only because
it is the darkest legal tint in SA. Both cars were done by Tint a Car
and both were a lot cheaper than the amount in your post.
The Bolle looks great though, and I would pay the extra if it
is legal in your state :)

I put it on the wifes car (Tarago) and absolutely loved it.
I then put it on the Senator as well. Fancy name aside it is a very good tint and looks great on the silver and Karma colors. Best looking tint on the market in my opinion and i checked them all out.
I paid less (much) but i know the local tint-a-car guy and got no sunglasses with either tint so all up your deal seems good.
You will love it!

I'd go to Peter Gardner in Morley.. he id both mine and Deans ssv's.. top quality and fit!.. from what hes told me from working for a few companies in the past i wouldnt go to tint a car etc.. but thats me :). He used a brand "Johnson" from the USA, on mine. Cost me like $450 for tint all round :)

Thanks for the replies. I would go up to Perth if there was going to be a clear product and price advantage. The thing is it's an hour and a half drive each way from my joint. From my research so far only one or two have been unhappy with the bolle tint and I would go as far as to say they are install related issues. The price can always fluctuate. I'll see what I can do as far as the price goes before the car goes in. A couple of free sets of sunnies certainly sweeten the deal if they're any good. The dealer I got the car from wanted $595 for midnight express. :spew: I kindly said pass.

Lewis personally i would touch the stuff
every tint-a-car done car i know has been back more than once to fix the tints due to bubbles or dust/dirt on the window, etc etc
when u have a workshop where its production like and u got one guy removing tint, one guy preparing window, another putting it on etc in a massive workshop ur not gonna get perfect results with crap in the air!
Definitely go see Peter Garden in Morley when ur up in perth next.
He wont be cheaper but u will get a top job. He has a specially setup garage with air cons setting room temp to a certain temperature, clean area, fluro lights on walls, celiing, etc, special large glass panels on the wall to prepare the tint, uses no glues, etc...he removes ur door panels and brings the tint right to the bottom of the glass so it wont catch on the trim and pick off.
also tint he uses and his application means u can put the windows down and up as soon as the stuff is on the window none of this leave the windows up for 2 days crap!
the guy has been doing it for 30+ years which is longer than anyone around by far. with tintacar u get apprentice 17yo doing ur tint
if u need his number or more info pm me and i am happy to help :)

The Johnson tint that Peter Garden uses is great to look through.
Peter Garden did my fiance's car 35% on the main windows and it is better than any other 35 I have looked through..
As soon as I have spare cash my SSV is going to him to have the Solaguard shit taken off and his tint put on.
Plus as said above his workmanship is second to none, unlike the crap job done by Solagard on mine (bubbles, scratches and different make tint on the rear screen :flipoff:)

My johnson tint has been on 18months now with not one prob.. almost like the glass is tinted in itself rather than having tint on! :) and yes his workshop is awesome!

You wont have a drama if you get Peter to do your tint too.
The Galleria is a short walk up the street so you and the missus can always go damage the credit card a bit more or go see a movie then come back to a nice tinted car. I'd also factor in about another hour after pickup because the man can talk!!!
He may also offer you an optional extra which quite a few have taken up and comes in very handy during the summer months.

Well It's booked in for the whole hog tomorrow morning with Peter. Will post up some pictures once it's done. I like the blokes thoroughness just from one phone converstion. I said "how about the arvo sometime". Pete said "No, because the atmospherics aren't right in the arvo for applying tint". HAhaha. Don't know whether he's pullin me leg or not but I like the professionalism. :)

you will see what we mean when u rock up. the garage is recessed in the middle to get the nose of the car a little more forward closer to the air con, etc etc....
that dude lives, breathes and probably eats tint

He's still "trancing" along with the music and glow sticks...
Peter is THE MAN for tint.. And LOVES his trance tunes .. He actually took a copy of a CD i had in my head unit playing at the time.. When i got there he said 'car's all done, just take another 5 minutes to finish copying that trance CD you had"..
And i think we ALL went for the "extra" tint... It's proved to be a winner!

Yep.. I was the same, but after looking at two other cars he had parked next to each other - one with and one without - i could not really tell much difference atl all..
So, i had it done.. and well, I am *very happy* that i did..
And even his really dark tints, don't look that dark.. In a good 'attract attention' way :-)
2 Thumbs up for Peter...

Yep all done. I have some phone shots of it I'll post up tonight. Will report on how it is when it dries. Currently looks good but has slight bubbles. I've been assured they will dry and the bubbles will disappear.

yep mine had little bubbles too mate and yes they do go away.
I noticed mine gone after about a week, then again it was about a week since I got in the car so may have been quicker.

Well the 75 got rooted. Mandurah Holden decided to take off the service sticker with a scraper and you can imagine the rest. There fix was to remove the tint and say seeya when you're in for your 30,000km service. "Arrrrr No". I went there for convenience and it bit me in the arse. Live and learn. Just thought I'd share.
BTW, 75 tint is amazing.

that sucks lewis :(
a couple have also gotten caught out with that but with a blade and fortunately for them have left a small nick that isnt really visable....
most service/workshop places now leave the service sticker off or put it on the B Pillar inside the door area.
expensive but when you're next in perth you could get peter to put one on again i guess. glad you liked it tho :)

Hey boys sounds like your tinter is a man after my own heart... The optional extra is a must as far as I'm concerned, don't really offer it to anyone though because of possible repercussions.. Mine is 50 not 75 though, can't really tell it's on there seeing sides and rear are 5... Sounds like you have to put the fear into your car dealer so they remember for next time.. Knuckleheads!!

not the stuff Peter uses..can wind windows down as soon as its stuck on :D
hey mate, just thought I'd mention for anyone interested that almost all auto solar films you can wind windows down because the glue goes off very quickly, keeping the window up just helps the edges adhere as good as possible and more importantly stops people who like to "fat arm" while they drive from catching the edge of the film and peeling it back while it's drying..
Cheers
Tim
