Some time ago, I had a Comp 220/224 cam installed. I was told this cam wouldn't require a high stall but experience has shown me otherwise. However, before I have one installed, I'd like to know if a high stall will affect towing a ski boat (including launching and retrieving).

the ve has a much higher stall than the older models, so i cant see why you would need one with such a small cam. my own car ran fine with a comp 224/228@112.
Perhaps you need to get your tuner to look at it?
If however you do go down the stall path, i dont think you will notice much difference with towing etc.

Yup
LS1 220/224 @ 112 lsa cam, hi stall of 2800.
Towed my dad's wrx (approx 1650kg) up a VERY steep incline without drama.
He was worried.
I was not.
I wouldn't think the slip is as bad as the old days

Had major dramas with my original tuner - took it back 3 times and they couldn't get it right. So I took it to another tuner and although they were able to make a marked improvement, it still doesn't behave well. Stalls a lot.

OK Thanks for that.
Might look at getting one installed.

Dan you getting a higher stall is only a band aid approach to the main issue. The tune.
With the car properly tuned to suit that cam you wont need to go the stall route.

Thanks for that. I agree but without someone who can tune it, I have to go the band aid route. I've already spent $1,500 on tuning. The second tuner (who didn't do the cam install) thought that the cam I had installed was not a Comp Cam. They had a lot of trouble trying to get it right. I asked the cam installer to confirm the cam but didn't get a response.

Trouble is your still going to be in the same boat. The A6 will require the TCM tune settings to be modified to allow the converter to work properly. If your current tuner cant get the engine side of things right, I doubt you'll have any joy with the A6.
By the time you've purchased the converter and then get it fitted and tuned to suit your going to be up for some decent coin. More than what you've already spent on the current tunes.
Most tuners will flash tune back to stock and refund minus dyno time if your not satisfied. It might be best to go that route and get soemone who knows how to tune to do it properly.

Thanks for this - I see now what the issue is and why the stallie will be a band aid.
