:confused:Hi guys i recently got my vx r8 clubsport a full engine rebuild with cam and head work. The cam note is really nice but would like a bit more of a chop or lope. As from what i have been told i will need a hi-stall to get this cam to idle more grumpy or else it will stall with the standard stall. And why does the cam note sound more choppy when its in netural or park and less in drive. As i have to go back very soon to G&D Performance to get my motor a recheck and change the run in oil. I hope they can make it a bit more lope without going for a hi-stall as i spent to much money so far on it.

Go the high stall. You'll love it. Especially with a big lumpy cam mate ;)

Would you know how much i am looking at to get one fitted as i think Trans Gears and Diffs are a good choice as i have been there a few times before.

A stallie doesn't affect how lumpy your car idles, the cam and tune does. A good tuner can make any cam have a lump or not.
Have a chat to the guys at G&D and get them explain to you what putting a stallie in your car does. Also, what size cam did you get put in? Surely they would have installed a converter to suit the cam if it needed it?...

When have you changed transmission gears? Diff gears yes, but just get your auto shift kitted/strengthened to suit your new set-up.

Agreed, if you want more lump, you should have gone with a different cam, or get them to tune some fake lump in there for you...

And I think when he says "Trans Gears and Diffs" it's the name of the shop..

High stall's are a great thing i was so worried when going from a small stick to a decent size one with a stall i was so wrong to worry they just make the car so drivable & so smooth i was shocked really.

But yer as said tuner can make a small cam sound lumpy autotechnique got my small one sounding pretty tough but at the end of the day ya going to need to go bigger if ya want a massive difference.

The cam i got is a ZE-2 billet cam i am pretty sure its around the 224 226 mark the best cam G&D Performance recommend for power, or a all round combo as Glenn told me. There is no need for a bigger cam as i have that tuff lump there just want it to sound a bit more ruff on idle if possible without changing my stall thats all i am after. But like i said maybe i will end up getting a stall anyway. As maybe the standard stall is making the engine work harder at low rpm.

Like we've said before, the stall won't affect the way the car idles.

Depending on the size/speed you go, it can rev up to a higher RPM with little to no drive which will make it go faster when you push it. With a cam of that size, you could get away with the stock convertor, but something around the 2800-3200 mark will help a lot in making it a quicker car without sacrificing drivability.

I know what you mean by the idle not being as lumpy in drive as in neutral or park. Mine was the same before the stall. Although my cam is a bit bigger I bet when you put it in drive the car feels like it wants to drive off by itself, the cams fighting against the small/tight stall, and your brakes too i bet. I'd definitely recommend a stally, but having said that get the tuner to look at it again. Whats speeds it idling at?

he isnt saying the stall will effect the way it idles
hes saying if he wants more lump at idle he will need a stall

just go the stall you will love it

Hey Mate

Don't be scared to go big with the stall. I got a 4200 lockup Dominator in my ute and its a daily driver. I drove around without a stall for a while which was a pain. I wish I put a converter in before I did the cam swap (224 228 114LSA).

Cam, stall and diff gears when matched up nicely can make a car quite nice to drive. I got 3.91's which complement the stall quite nicely.

Something around the 3500 rpm mark would be a nice daily. If you want to run at the drags go 4000 plus.
