Hey guys,
I'm travelling from Brisbane (southside) to Monto with the family in the SSV in November and wandering what was the best and quickest way to go.
What are the roads like, are there many men in blue and how long will it take.
I was thinking of going up the mighty Bruce to Kiklivan then heading west.
Would this be the best way??

Through Kilkiven is best but go straight ahead after Kilkiven. If you right it is a tiny bit shorter but there is a bit of dirt and the roads get thin. Plus that way is much more fun road and some good twisties.
Roads are all pretty good as of about 12 months ago and not a bad drive. I am not going to say what the best time I did it in (many moons ago mind you and before all this speed camera stuff) but average is about 5 hours. Traffic is a bit harsh before and around Gympie but after that you will be almost on your own. I done the trips many times and enjoyed it.
Good old Monto is where I grew up. Down on a dairy farm about 25km brissie side of town. My parents are still there but only beef cattle now.
Bottom pub is the council pub, top pub is the footy pub. Both good places and I enjoyed plenty a beer at both of them.
The council blokes used to know me as skidmarks listy due to a small loose in the old turbo falcon and I left about 200 meters of 4 wheel skid marks on the road on the outskirts of town. Again no comment on how fast but that was in my silly days. That was the turn around point where I gave up being stupid on the road as I missed me and my mate dying by about 1 foot each side of the car (two giant gun trees and stupid speeds) That was my break and I took it.

Thanks HSV Listy. Will let you know how the trip goes. We are actually spreading my grandfathers ashes at Cania Gorge. Thought it would make a good time for a family get together of the Walter clan.
