My VZ (alloytec 190) has a fuel smell that can be smelt in the cabin...

It is not smelt in the engine bay whilst idleing or reved.... but typically whilst driving from a standing start or under heavy/ wide open throttle.

As it is smelt in the cabin i guess it will be something in the bay or close to it?

Leaky injector?
Fuel regulator?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Same on my old work wagon, check the fuel cap, mostly likely cracked, or missing a seal

Yeah mine had petrol smell and new cap fixed it - even though the seal seemed alright on the original one. It's a cheap thing to rule out first...

 haha good idea!

I've also heard fuel vapour canisters can be a cause of fuel smell inside the car.

Occasionally I get that in my car then it disappears.. Mrs car smelt like it was running really rich but on service no fault could be found.. So yeah might be nothing.. check your garage that there's no apparent leaks or anything on the floor.

I've had the smell twice or so, only on WOT though and both times on a slight incline (freeway on ramp) so I don't know if that makes any difference but just saying.

My fuel cap was slightly loose, but looked to be in good order - no cracks etc....

Will see how it goes next couple of days before i send it to mechanic to look for a leak.....

My vote would be for running rich . Tune will fix it plus the added bonus extra grunt

So far so good - looks like it may have just been a loose fuel cap...... lets hope it stays this way (the cheapest fix!)

But yes a tune is on the way......

I doubt it would be just "running rich" for no reason, it has a computer, not a carby.

Definitely the fuel cap. I had the same issue and took it to holden last summer (generally happens to me in the hot weather). The guy tried to tell me it was because of my OTR, but after reading another thread on here I convinced him to have a look at the fuel cap. Sure enough, the spring in there had popped out of place. I asked them to replace it under warranty but they just put the spring back in place. No problems since.
