Hi Guys,

Currently my VX XU6 is lowered on 20's VE copies, rubber is 225/35. I’m considering on changing to a set of genuine 19" VX GTS’s with 245/35 rubber.

Now my question is will I notice a big difference in the change in suspension height going from 20's to 19's? I’m just scared that I may need to raise the suspension particularly at the front which is something I do not want to do.

Any opinions or advice on this would be great, cheers.

Try this web site for conversions...
http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp?action=submit

I put in the sizes you quoted and it says: Overall diameter of 20" wheel and tyre is 665.48mm, the 19" combo is 654.05mm - so the difference in overall diameter is 11.43mm, half that is 5.7mm so the car would sit around 5 to 6 mm lower on the 19'' combo.

Thanks for that mate thats very helpful. Basicly not much of a difference then going to 19's really.

It's going to be a lot more comfortable too!

Hey meatball,

Should look a lot better with VX GTS's! SSL springs + 19's would look hot!

Ok another question will 235/35/19's hit on my struts or fowel the front guards?

The car is fairly low so and I do not have any problems what so ever with my 20's, the offset on my 20's is is 45+ and I believe the VX GTS wheels are 48+.

I have decided to go 235's over the 245's.

I have 245 on all corners, 19" wheels with SSL all round no issues at all and I havent had any guards rolled. My 1st set of tires were 235s no rubbing.

I still have standard 18's on my ss, i couldnt imagine going any bigger on my car as the ride quality would be terrible, un-liveable. I have no idea how you put up with 20's.

And living out where you do, you are aware of this. I've stated many a time that it is fine on the smooth metro roads, but when you are driving on ordinary coarse-chip bitumen roads in the country, having anything more than 19s is a tad silly.

I put the 19s on mine to clear the brakes that I bought and could get away with it because I've got the Senator 'luxury' suspension, so the ride hardly changed.

I have SSSL springs in my ute, with 245/35/19 tyres etc. Scrubs only a little bit when cornering really hard, never in normal driving. I think you will be fine, just get your guards rolled.

Yer well my guards are rolled already and im going 235's so I guess we'll wait and see how we go tomorrow with the swap over. Is there much of a difference in ride handling between the 235 and 245 tyre?

Thx to everyone for the positive feedback.

I put 19's on VX clubby R8 and I am having trouble finding tyre valves to clear the Brake callipers. Trying to source some different ones but at the mo I got some daft go kart style valves in place. Personally I think my ride is better with 19's than the 18's, and I dunno how you got the 20's to clear the struts. Good luck

Hi Mate
you will need to use 245/35x19 tyres as no one that i know of makes a 235/35x19 tyre that is load rated to suit !
i beleave you need at least 92 load rating on your vx .
245/35x19 is 93
235/35x19 are 90 or 91 ..
not sure if you care about it but just somthing to keep in mind ??

Yer I checked the load rating and it seems to be met with the tyres. On my tyre placard the load rating says 91 and the tyres I have gotten which are Kumo tyres say they the load rating is 91, so shouldnt they be fine to use?

handling wise 19s have their limits, I push mine on mountain runs but dread the day I pull one off the bead.

the 245s are marginally better, you wont notice it unless you done a bit more than shocks/springs. If you want stagger the tires and put 245s n the rear. Get the camber kit or you will be blowing $700 for rears fairly often if its a daily driver
