G'Day, i was just wondering if someone could help me. I've got a VTII SS and have been thinking about seeing what it does down the 1/4mile. There have been some exhaust mods etc, but i have been told by others that this car is abnormally quick for what has been done. Now, i was just wondering if someone could give me a few tips when on the track... I know you need to deflate the tyres a little to get more traction, but to what PSI do i leave them? And is there much gain by removing the exhaust (cat back)? How to stop the wheel spin on take off etc, as this thing tends to do a lot of it on take off. I have been to the track many times with mates, but never had a run myself. now i havent been in a few years and no-one i know goes there that often anymore. So i am open to all types of advice as i really would like to know what the best time this car can do. Also AV Gas, if i run a tank full of this, will it do any harm to the CAT's or the injectors?
Thanks in advance!:hide:

Welcome BermudablueSS, I think a lot of the stuff you are after is in the private area of the forum which you won't be able to see until validated. However heres some answers to a few of your questions.
Tyre pressure is a matter of personal opinion and subject to the vagaries of tyre choice. Some people say that it isn't any good to let air out of road tyres at the drags. Personally I let my 18 tyres down to 20psi and found it hooked up much better. Just experiment and see what works for you.
As for a time down the 1/4, with only an exhaust and maybe CAI, you should be mid to low 14's. However, if your car is quicker than most then you might crack a 13 if track/weather conditions are kind to you.
The launch is up to experimentation but people I know with a manual tend to find some minimal wheelspin to be the optimum style of launch as long as the clutch hold out.
Hope this helps.

and expect times a lot slower for your first few runs!!!!
I took the my ute to Calder last week and it was my first time down there...i didnt change anything on the car and only managed a 15.3 at 99MPH.....
I also didnt boot it off the line being my first time so i think there was easily a full second to be made up there...
Best thing is to go and have a few runs and see how you go...I know thats what ill be doing in a couple of weeks at Heathcote...
Welcome to the Forum!!!

What revs do you use when launching from the line UTESSVY?

i only launched at about 3500rpms...thats why the run was stuffed from the start....it wasnt till i hit 2nd that i gave it a gutful!!
There was a SS ute 3 cars before me that gave it heaps off the line and was still wheel spinning half way down the track...
I saw that i thought i take it easy....
Im gonna have to give it more next time though to get in down to mid 14's....
terminal speed was right....accel and reaction times werent!!!

I havent been to Calder for a long time now, didnt know that they lost the nationals... But thanks to all the guys who have replied, i have had some interesting info shared. When i eventually get the car running better (oxy sensors playing up at the moment) ill be going down for my first run down the track. But one question still remains, Calder park i know gets pretty busy and can be a pain to get more than a couple of runs in a night, but Heathcote, is that any better? I have never been there is it a better track is there more of a chance to get a few more runs in? :driving:
