Hey been a member for a while but more of a reader than a poster.
Not sure if this is the right section but looked good.
I just bought a vs Clubby its
Manual
Leather
Red
Put 20s on it came on vt gts wheels
340,000ks on the clock but motor was freshened up 55,000ks ago
The car itself is really neat and drives fine but has got me thinking if to molest it of not as im not to much into standard.
I have just finished putting a new L98 motor an my vx ss so on my floor i have a complete LS1 and 6 speed, this has got me thinking about putting this in the clubby.
Its the first HSV ive owned and i like the originality of it but am stuck as i know the power and feel of the gen3 and it would be different.
if i was not to put my gen3 in i would probably supercharge it anyway.
Whats peoples thoughs on this

it looks like your in quite the pickle, i would want to keep things original but at the same time, i would want more kick from the ls1... Hmm I'd go a gen3 in it... Id like to see that...

let us know what you decide...

Stick with the iron V8, they are a great little motor, and can make serious power. I know everyone will say the Gen3 is a better motor, which in most respects it is, but there is something very cool about an angry Holden V8, they just sound soo tough, and have great power potential.

I have both an m6 ls1 r8 and an auto vs clubby and auto vs senator and I have to say whilst i love my low loud black m6 ls1, I would flog it off in a second to keep my stock as a rock auto vs clubby. I simply love the unique look the older VS HSV has, even though the r8 is alot more fun as a drivers car. Having said that, prior to buying my R8 I was saving up to put an m6 and 355 in my VS Senator and decided against it and went the LS1 route. 18 months on, Im sitting on the fence whether I made the right decision and everytime I look at my Senator(currently forsale) I think, gee, it woulda been cool to have put a 355 in you over buying the ls1. Now that may seem bias toward the VS however today work kindly donated 28 pages of A4 paper for me to print of the ls1 how to cam installation guide ;)

Eitherway you're a winnar mate. Personal choice really. Goodluck

Keep it original, nice car the VS Clubby, the 5 litre motors sound heaps better than the LS motors, and the low down torque makes them a nice drive.

+1 for the 5L. id sell the ls1 and trans and put the dollars into upgrading the S. e.g 355 crank, cam, head work, manifold, gears etc.

I love driving the vx especially with the 6L so smooth and crisp.
The vs cruises really nice as it is but its missing the poke. From the back of the car the old 5L sounds good but at the front the engine just sounds not as smooth etc.
I havnt really looked into working a 5L so not sure on cost for power etc.
I got a complete conversion from my vx motor box tailshaft exhaust the lot not sure what its worth but if i could sell it and cover the cost to do a but to the 5L i probably would.

enjoy it as it is or supercharge it. While the old 5 litre sounds tuff bang for ypur buck will make it not really worth it . The best way to get power out of her is to super charge it and put a mild cam in to suit.

ive put the ls1 into my vs it had a 355 before and i dont regret it at all plus the ls1 makes better power cheaper

I'd either keep it original (well, original engine anyway) or, although expensive, keep the old engine in storage just in case.

I'd keep it original. You've got another car for fun, keep as a nice cruiser.

As the others have said. Keep the 5l in it and supercharge.

Nothing matches the sound of a 5L at full noise. I kind of regret selling my VR-SS that had the 215kw 5L in it. Was a lot more fun to drive than the LS1 R8.

very envious of your prediciment. i would keep the 5L.

while it would go awesome with the ls1 in it, you already have the vx with l98 so you have something different to drive when you feel like it.

A VR SS with 215 Kw?, wasn't 215 the Kw's for the 5.7 stroker of the day - in the yellow GTS and an option in the Senator? I remember the VS Clubby as being 185, weren't non HSV 5.0 165Kw then - there was a HSV enhanced SS option I think was 185.

It was a HSV Enhanced SS with the 215kw motor out of the Senator. It is still plodding around the Carrum Downs area in Melbourne. Has the custom plates VRSS on it.
