Hi all,
Just wondering what i should expect a workshop to charge to to remove and fit my standard manifold and TB and replace with a fast/ nick williams combo?
I was hoping someone could give me a rough estimate of time, so i can then be educated when i am paying the labour component?
Thanks

$100-$250
I would do it yourself-it takes between 30-45 minutes for a pro to do it-
so a first timer i would say 1-2 hours tops
Most of the tools needed for the task the average joe blow should have-
You might need to borrow the fuel line remover tool if doing it yourself--

As above i would agree that in shop should only take about an hour tops. At the most you should pay around $200.
Best of luck,
Andy.

Don't need the fuel line remover, I just lift it out of the way with the injectors attached. ;)

Dont forget the bracket on the back of the engine needs to be spaced back a little, and the coolant? crossover pipe carfully pressed down!

my thoughts exactly. shops would charge prob $60 to $90 per hour i guess depen on wether their socket set are repco or snap on hahaha. but anyone who charges more must have alot of their own toys to pay for and their kids college funds to set up

The first time I ever took my manifold off it took me 1hr-15minutes, and that was fitting it back on.......surely one of the apprentices at Holden could do it quicker than me.
I'm not THAT mechanically minded either mind you.
My question is, why do pissy little {seemingly easy} jobs need to cost more than the work entails.
Surely as top poster {therefor most well read/learned} you would agree this is not a complex job.

Fitting it the first time is fiddly and can take a while. but putting it back on takes a good 10 minutes!

I actually have a fantastic relationship with my local Holden dealer, and get well looked after..... my point was, why would fitting a new manifold and TB be more than an hours work for someone willing to tell you they know how to do it.
I just don't think it's that big of a job, let's call it 1.5 hours {to be reeeeal careful}.
How long would it take you Sonny?

tell me about it, its bull shit.
In karratha where i live and work the cheapest labour is us and we are 130 a hour the most is 160ahour, But mind you the mechanics are on very good money but the buisenses have to pay us good if they wish to keep us. on site you start at 90k and work up.
Vicious circle but people pay the price for making the big bucks.

Well that depends on your relationship with your dealer. I've never been charged for simple Tech2 tasks. But we look after each other with small things like this.

Took me 1.5 hours to change my manifold, fit the later coolant vapour lines and remove the clips from the knock sensor harness when I changed to an LS6 manifold. Hell it would have been quicker but I dropped a socket down an inlet port and had to find a pen magnet. That was the first time i'd ever pulled and refitted an LS1 manifold. Not a hard job at all. If I had to do it again I could do it in an hour tops.

Statie,we are agreeing again :),you sure your not going soft ? common you know it only takes 30mins to fit a fast manifold,$80 is too expensive,$50 is more like it

Fitting the fast does take some interesting things and adjustments. Like removing the rear engine lift point.... Adjusting some coolant lines.... changing over valley cover bolts.... ahh I am sure there was some other intersting things that I have forgotten. fitting a fast manifold was so 2005.

You charging $50 for labour now Sonny!!! I didn't think you got out of bed for anything less than a G!!!! hahahaha
I must admit though the intake manifold is a simple bolt on affair and can be done by any idiot (myself included) BTW Auto Pro at homebush had a pack of 6 fuel line removal tools for $10.

Makes you wonder why they come in packs of 6. The buggers probably break all the time!

Cut a slot in a water bottle pop top and bobs your uncle. Used mine about a dozen times and its still going strong.

For a fuel line separating tool I use one made from the funnel cap piece for silicone tubes, cut it off at a point that is the dia of the fuel line and then slice it down the side, slip over the fuel line and push the sloped end into the fuel fitting to release it.
Been using it for years now.

Yeah thats right its not really a "bolt-on" mod is it, more "move this" "space that" and "wtf do i do here" type thing!

Actually it was 6 different sizes. But I do like both "bushman" solutions suggested.
