Dunstin,
We use these with our mining jobs in Aus and PNG.
If you are carrying up to 4 adults these cars are great. They have never let us down. Great on fuel and will go just about anywhere.
If you are chasing 2nd hand have a look at ex-mines vehicle. They are usually very well maintained and serviced. Ex-police canine units use these too.
The bad - depends on your needs but 3 adults in the back is squashy. Ride is commercial vehicle quality - (not like Prado, Landcruiser).

use one of these for work. mid 08 model and done about 23,000km on at and had no problems so far. driven both the auto and manual, manual is better for 4wding in low range, but the auto is a comparable unit for normal duties.
Have towed a 800kg+ machinery behind it before (not including trailer) and had no problems at all.

I don't actually work in the mines but they are always looking for electricians. My cousin is a senior manager for Rio Tinto and is always going on about how hard it is to keep qualified tradies. From memory the second plant in Gladstone is/has created a heap of jobs.
If you are prepared to put in the hours there is good $$$ to be made. As some of you know RT is waiting for Govt. approval from the Foreign Invest. review board which - if granted- will see another influx of employment.
OT - If you get one with fibreglass canopy they make an awsome tradies vehicle.

I have a '07 SR5 auto dual cab as a daily drive and it's a great vehicle. Very comfortable and roomy enough for the family with plenty of room in the back seat. Fuel wise I get 12 to 9.5 k's per ltr pending on driving conditions. Computer presently indicating 10.2k's per ltr with a combination of city/country 'spirited' driving and I can't recall the last time I reset the computer.
The auto goes really well and having driven the manual version I much prefer the auto. My company owns 4 autos and 1 manual which is a fare indication of how much we like the auto's. Having said that one of the other directors is replacing his manual Navara with a SR5 manual.
Grunt wise, these things hammer for a 4WD, certainly no LS V8 but I can't fault it for a turbo diesel. Have done heaps of big kilometre trips from Bathurst to Broken Hill, Ivanhoe, Brisbane, etc and have found it very comfortable.
Problems I have found with the 5 we presently own include - crap brakes, factor fitted tyres are sh!t. The speedos read 10k/hr faster than actual speed when compared to GPS readings. They also had a loud knock when they first start up on a cold morning but this problem has since been fixed with a factory ECU reprogram/adjustment and some needed different injectors.
We have ordered new ones to replace our two year old ones so if you're after one with 70-95 thousand k's with a heap of options send me a pm.

What are they waiting on FIRB approval for? and how will it lead to more employment?

My mate has got one, not a bad car. Way over priced though. My old man has got a D40 Navara, it's a better car imo. More power, bigger interior etc etc

Have got one at work - 2wd 06 3.0 T/D. I've Done thousands of K's in it, the diesel is a bit noisy on the highway at around 2500rpm in 5th at 100, but its got plenty of pulling power and is ever so reliable, they really can cop a beating. A great workhorse, I would highly reccomend.

Yep I got one as a work/ play 4b. It has done 60,000ks now and have had no problems apart from aftermarket ARB stuff but thats another story.
Brakes are about the worst thing about it.

Top bit of gear imho :) just sold one and was very impressed with power/ economy etc...BUT Bang for $$$$ with Holden’s current runout deals ,the Humble but truck like Colorado Dual Cab 4x4 TD Auto is hard to beat at 36K on Road....just need to push the dealer a tad for the auto at above price..but can be done :)…..can’t get a Holden dealer to commit at that money for the auto ....pm….cost you one carton of 4X finest and I'll point you in the right direction.
