So, Melbourne weather has been a tad wet this week, all week. It's been quite a while since we have had a long wet spell and it' catching a few new drivers out. This guy has been pretty lucky to not do a lot more damage....

To be fair, there was a bit of water across the road, back past the crossing in pic 2. It's possible he hit this and aquaplaned, but even so he must have going pretty quick.
Stay safe out there people!

Honestly Officer, I didn't realize the road was that wet. I thought my 15" wheels will keep me on the road while I was doing a skid.......... Pffffffffffft

I don't understand why people can't drive in the wet. You get people driving 20+ km/h under the speed limit hanging onto the wheel like it would fall off if they let it go, people start crashing left right and centre, people still insist on tailgating you like they do in the dry... some people need yearly driving tests

Looking at the drivers indicator, he hit the white pole behind him too.
Come down the road a bit fast, took the slight corner a bit fast and ditched it

Our public transport system would not be able to handle the influx of
new customers.

In his defense, the diffs in them wagons arnt very predictable, that along with inexperience= recipe for disaster!

+1 I love the 'stockies' effect created by removing the rear wheel covers :lmao:
are you staking out white posts Simon?

I've seen a car aquaplane at 70km/h, you don't have to be going fast for it to occur and only takes a split second for the car to change direction.
Having said that, the chances of it occuring are pretty slim. But hey, it was a P plater driving so it's fair to assume he (or she) was doing something illegal. It's good to see that Simon didn't jump to any conclusions in his original post :goodjob:
As Brad said, it may have just come down to lack of experience in the wet, in which case there is only one way any of us leant - by driving in the wet. I've had a few slip ups when being sensible and a few when I wasn't, as I'm sure most of us have. Either way it's knowledge in the bank and it's a bit harsh to lay blame for lack of experience when there's no other way to gain it.
If blame must be handed out, put it on the rediculously poor requirements to gain a drivers license.

I thought the same thing when I read the title and saw the pic. to me the car could have been going 50 and just slid off the road, the driver doesnt have to be doing anything stupid. The stigma of p platers is no different that we get as car entusiests being labeled as hoons. I personally for one have hit standing water at 80km, aquaplaned and hit a tree, and I was just minding my ow business- after me three other cars in the following week did the same. sometimes just the luck of the draw.
maybe the driver was doing the wrong thing but lets not jump to conclusions:smilesandbanana:

Ive gotta say my vs exec was the worst and most unstable car I ever had in the wet. It would aquaplane quite easliy and used to be very nervous in the wet. What was the cause of above, who knows??

This wouldn't happen to be on Napoleon road between Wellington and Kellets Road would it? (Didn't see the car, but that road looks familiar)

Could have been worse hehehe, like this guy below..
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2006/10/ccx_crash.jpg
"Included in the cost of every Koenigsegg CCX is the tuition for a high performance driving school. One owner decided to opt out of the school and subsequently wrecked his brand new CCX within 18 hours of taking delivery. The nephew of one of the owners of H&M (a store that sells high end clothing at economical rates) attempted to pass another vehicle, moved into the oncoming lane, lost control and spun, colliding with a garbage truck.
All told, no major injuries were sustained, but egos have been bruised indefinitely."
No Comment..:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Yes, just south of the school crossing! I reckon he was out of control through the crossing as well.
As for those about how easy it is to aqua-plane..... I know how easy it is, ( VN Calais 5lt with really bad tires ). Actually, I also remember loosing traction in a Nissan Pulsar at 10kmh whole driving through flooded roads in Ballarrat in the early 90's, because the car started to float! The fact still remains though, that he was driving faster than his skill and road conditions could handle. Remember that speed limits are an indication for "best possible road conditions". If the conditions are not good, you should adjust speed to suite.

Yeah exactly Swingtan, The signs are just a recommendation. Cause some signs say 80kmh's doesn't mean you "Have" to do that speed. Most roads around Hurstbridge/Whittlesea etc are very tight and are signed at 80-100kmh's, But what most people tend to forget is the conditions of the roads/wildlife and all other factors.
