seems to fit right in with the likes of xtrail, CRV etc, and 2WD won't be a disadvantage for for who just want a wagon type thing for the city, there is very few wagons on the market now. Saw an article that said Captiva will be competitor with Hyundai Tucson 2WD, I don't see that happening as the Hyundai is $22990 drive away - the Captiva will be about $31,000 driveaway. Hyundai seems very good value for the dollars.

No you wouldn't.
MaXX had 3.2 V6, this is a 2.4 4cyl. MaXX was a luxury model with a feature list a mile long, this is a povo pack.
No comparison

The base model Tucson is powered by the Elantra's 2.0 4 cylinder engine, whereas Captiva 4cyl has 20% more engine. Just one of the reasons it is cheaper. Tucson is soon to be replaced, hence the decent discount off it's usual retail price, plus they aint pretty!

Agree 100% Davo, it will be interesting to see where the buyers come from - given it's almost a new segment for Holden (given it's at least 6 grand less than the current Captivas), will the buyers have been looking at a more expensive Captiva, but come down to the 5 as they only need 2WD etc anyway, or will they score some lowend Xtrail, CRV, or RAV4 etc buyers. Could also be buyers who might have bought the now defunct Astra or Viva wagons, but it's a big price hike up from the old Viva. I think it should be a winner for Holden though, as long as it's not just sales taken from next level Captiva.

The Captiva is the next size up from the Tuscon anyway

At that price, I don't think wondering where buyers will come from is a problem.

"Holden is quick to point out that the Captiva this year has outsold Ford’s former medium SUV champion, the Territory, with 6998 examples sold to date for a market share of 15.1 per cent. "

Good to see Captiva outselling the Territory this year, even after Ford facelifted the Territory it's still struggling in sales

wonder if the brake issue they kept quite had a minor part in the slumping sales figures?
if the new 4cyl can keep up with the competition (ravs and crv) then holden imo is gonna do very well
Excellent

It's probably good for Holden but it's not good that an Australian built car is not selling as well as the imports. Territory is supposedly the better car but Ford have let themselves down badly with some of the public issues and belated recall.
Ford have some great cars in their lineup that just aren't selling as well as they should. I'd take Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo over any competing Holden product. I'd take the Territory over the Captiva as well. It's the poor aftersales service that gives Ford such a bad name though.

Holden will add a new Captiva five-seater to its popular SUV range later this year.
Captiva 5 will offer an alternative for motorists that want the value, flexibility and safety features of the Captiva 7 range but as a five-seater.
Captiva 5 will be powered by a 2.4 litre four cylinder engine and will compete directly against Toyota Rav4, Nissan X-Trail and Honda CRV.
Available as a 2WD with manual transmission or an AWD with automatic transmission, both models boast a competitive feature list including:
Driver and front passenger airbags
Side curtain airbags
Electronic Stability Control
Traction Control
17” alloy wheels
Air conditioning
6 Disc CD player
Cloth seat trim
Leather wrap steering wheel
Cruise control
Front and Rear Park Assist
Holden Executive Director of Sales and Marketing, John Elsworth, said the introduction of the Captiva 5 meant Holden would better compete in the Compact SUV and Medium SUV segments.
“Captiva 5 is a compact SUV that will attract a different set of buyers than those who require the seven-seater,” Mr Elsworth said.
“It is sure to appeal to couples and families with its attractive European styling, well specified equipment level and competitive price point.”
The Captiva seven-seater range will continue with the SX, CX and LX models.
Holden Captiva is one of Australia's favourite mid-size SUVs, outselling the Ford Territory with 6,998 vehicles sold year to date, accounting for 15.1 per cent of the competitive medium SUV market.
Captiva 5 will go on sale in early December with the following recommended retail prices:
Captiva 5 2WD (manual) $27,990
Captiva 5 AWD (automatic) $30,990
